Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Every week at Puerto Vallarta's Old Town Farmers Market - Tianguis Cultural, local people with secret family recipes and small businesses with unique handmade products offer their goods directly to the public. Check it out every Saturday from 9:30 am to 2 pm through the end of May.

In keeping with the philosophy of "Make it, Bake it, Grow it," the Old Town Farmers Market- Tianguis Cultural is "a producer only" Market - all the products are made, baked, grown and sold by Vendors, all whom live within 50 kilometers of Puerto Vallarta.

Now in its’ third season, the Market provides local fresh farm produce, artisan foods, handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing, community education and live entertainment to locals and tourists from the entire Bay of Banderas region. Here's a sampling of what you'll find at the Old Town Farmers' Market this week...

Bickle Pickles

Yes, the first thing everyone asks Lynne is "is that your REAL name?" One can understand the query, but maybe Lynne was just destined to start making pickles. After coming to Puerto Vallarta she couldn’t find a decent pickle...a must for sandwiches. She started making small batches in her kitchen for her friends and then word spread. In addition to selling her pickles at the market, she sells to some select restaurants in the area. You can find Lynne Bickle of Bickle Pickles along Basilio Badillo where she offers deliciously crunchy kosher dill pickles, kosher spicy dill, Bread & Butter chips and pickled beets. You can contact Lynne at dansbychris(at)yahoo.com.

Albur Art

Isis Egle of Albur Art creatively takes common words or sayings and expresses them in art form. For example, her "Dirty Martini" has pigs lying inside a martini glass. Everything is quite clever! She uses pen and ink to create the originals, enhancing some with watercolor, color pencil or collage material. You can purchase her work in the form of calendars, mugs, cards or prints (framed or unframed; both original and laser printed; signed). You can contact Isis at (322) 125 9737 or by email at isisegle(at)gmail.com. You can also check out her work on her website IsisEgle.com.

Noni Juice

If you look at the photo of Oscar Diaz Valencia you will see the strange fruit used to derive Noni Juice, originally from Tahiti. This tropical fruit is reported to have a hundred different nutrients and compounds used to promote general wellness. Oscar explains it functions as DNA repair/enzyme therapy. Since the flavor is a bit exotic, the juice is missed with Tamarindo to make it more palatable. It is taken as a supplement prior to meals. You can contact Oscar at (322) 138-8023 or by email at nonirealazteca(at)yahoo.com.mx.

Los Sabores de Cristy

Some weeks ago we reported on the wonderful salsas and moles sold at Los Sabores de Cristy. All of the Asian and Mexican dishes sold there have been created by Christina Mancha. Christina also makes fresh ceviche available for purchase in the food court of the school. The fish is cooked first and varies depending on what is fresh and available each week. Her ceviche is made with carrots, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lime and a touch of mayonnaise. You can contact Christina or her husband Sergio by email at sergioalpenia(at)hotmail.com.

More about the Market...

The Old Town Farmers Market - Tianguis Cultural has fast become one of Puerto Vallarta's most compelling weekend attractions where you can meet new friends, say hello to old ones, talk directly to the producers, buy great products, support the local economy and take part in activities for the whole family.

Stop by the Market info booth located on the corner of Pino Suarez and B. Badillo and purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a generous basket of products donated by the various vendors. Bring a donation of school supplies and receive a free ticket to the raffle. All proceeds from the raffle go toward projects to help the school.

The Old Town Farmers Market-Tianguis Cultural is located on Calle Pino Suarez and inside the El Jardin de Ninos Emiliano Zapata, between V. Carranza and B. Badillo. We invite you to visit us every Saturday from November to May between 9:30 am and 2 pm. Plenty of parking is available across the street in the Lazaro Cardenas parkade. For more information, visit the Market website at OldTownFM.com, or its Facebook page: Old Town Farmer’s Market Puerto Vallarta.
