Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Every week at Puerto Vallarta's Old Town Farmers Market - Tianguis Cultural, local people with secret family recipes and small businesses with unique handmade products offer their goods directly to the public. Check it out every Saturday from 9:30 am to 2 pm through the end of May.

In keeping with the philosophy of "Make it, Bake it, Grow it," the Old Town Farmers Market- Tianguis Cultural is "a producer only" Market - all the products are made, baked, grown and sold by Vendors, all whom live within 50 kilometers of Puerto Vallarta.

Now in its’ third season, the Market provides local fresh farm produce, artisan foods, handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing, community education and live entertainment to locals and tourists from the entire Bay of Banderas region. Here's a sampling of what you'll find at the Old Town Farmers' Market this week...

Hecho Con Amor

If you love ice cream but can’t indulge in what is normally available due to dietary restrictions, consider that offered by Kim McDaniel and her Hecho Con Amor. Her ice cream is organic, vegan, dairy free and gluten free. She uses coconut milk extracted by hand, organic agave for sweetener as well as organic cocoa and vanilla for flavoring her selection of vanilla, chocolate or chai ice creams. Kim believes in healing through nutrition and started developing her unique products two years ago. Stop by the food court in the school and have a taste. You can contact Kim at pico138(at)hotmail.com or you can pick up some of her ice cream at Organic Super Foods or Organic Express Delivery.

Patricia Gawle

Patricia Gawle is one busy artist who creates incredible ceramic and clay sculpture from clay she harvests herself in El Tuito. She also teaches and produces functional art such as hand-painted tile/murals. Check out her round containers that she suggests be left open "for storage of the unexpected." Patricia tells us magic happens when these containers are fired using something called "Raku" style. She has hand-painted, hollow ceramic hearts labeled "believe", "joy", "love", etc. that have three ceramic beads inside. The beads represent your three wishes. You can see more of Patricia’s work on her website YourArtAdventure.com or you can contact her via email at plumdoorart(at)yahoo.com.

Tamales Angel

Stop by the booth of Maria de los Angeles de Zambrano and pick up a few of her tamales. She has been making tamales from home for three years and offers a number of fillings including cheese, spinach, chicken and pork. She also offers some wonderful bunuelos which we just had to sample. They are these incredibly light, crispy confections covered in sugar that you just can’t stop eating! You can contact Maria de los Angeles via email at vtamagic(at)yahoo.com.

Bahia Chiropractic

And after a day at the beach, or one spent exploring or just shopping, what better treat than a bit of "straightening" at the hands of Erik Fulfer of Bahia Chiropractic. Erik is a third generation chiropractor who has been practicing for 12 years, and the best part is he comes to you. Erik makes house calls Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week to wherever you are...your home, office, or hotel, north to Punta de Mita or south to Boca de Tomatlán. His specialty is full spine—areas of fixation and elimination of pressure off the nervous system. Based on the crowds you’ll always find waiting in line for his services, he is highly regarded and appreciated. You can find out more about chiropractic services at BahiaChiropractic.com or contact him via email at bahiochiro(at)gmail.com or telephone at 322-182-5045.

More about the Market...

The Old Town Farmers Market - Tianguis Cultural has fast become one of Puerto Vallarta's most compelling weekend attractions where you can meet new friends, say hello to old ones, talk directly to the producers, buy great products, support the local economy and take part in activities for the whole family.

Stop by the Market info booth located on the corner of Pino Suarez and B. Badillo and purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a generous basket of products donated by the various vendors. Bring a donation of school supplies and receive a free ticket to the raffle. All proceeds from the raffle go toward projects to help the school.

The Old Town Farmers Market-Tianguis Cultural is located on Calle Pino Suarez and inside the El Jardin de Ninos Emiliano Zapata, between V. Carranza and B. Badillo. We invite you to visit us every Saturday from November to May between 9:30 am and 2 pm. Plenty of parking is available across the street in the Lazaro Cardenas parkade.
