Puerto Vallarta Artist Shares 'Childhood Joy'

June 27, 2012
Inspired by every day life, Rodolfo's brightly colored acrylic and oil paintings can be seen at the Ron Morgan Properties office in Bucerías, and in an upcoming art show at Villa Sevilla in Amapas.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Childhood Joy... that's how Puerto Vallarta artist Rodolfo Agüero describes his paintings. He mainly uses acrylic and oil with many bright colors to make every stroke stand out.

Rodolfo started dabbling in art when he was just eight years old. His mother registered him for oil painting classes but soon realized he was allergic to the thinner and sadly had to drop out. He continued his passion with pencil and marker drawings.

Born in 1980 in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, that's where he grew up and honed his early artistic skills until he left for the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, at the age of 20. "I rediscovered my painting passion while I attended college," says Rodolfo. "I also came out during this time." He left his home and family and felt the freedom of his new surroundings. Rodolfo says many in his family and home town associated artists with being gay in a negative light, so it was difficult growing up, knowing he was gay, in such an environment.

During college Rodolfo ended up delving back into the art world and pursued a bachelor's degree in art studio with a focus on abstract and minimal style paintings. "I tend to paint straight lines because my childhood was crooked," he says. "I want to recreate my favorite cartoons that I remember from childhood." He goes on to say that most of his inspiration comes from everyday life, its surroundings and experiences.

Agüero moved to Puerto Vallarta in 2008 and had his first art show in October 2010. Many of his pieces are on display at the Ron Morgan Properties' office in Bucerías. Combining a real estate office and art gallery, the space, located at Lazaro Cárdenas 108A in the Zona Dorada, is the first of its kind in the Bay of Banderas region.

Rodolfo's next show will be Sunday, July 15th at Villa Sevilla in Amapas. Yellow Times will show case not only his work, but the works of about 20 other artists. The theme is pop art in yellow, black and white, perfect for any interior. The showing runs from 7-10:30 pm along with appetizers, wine and a DJ. Grab some friends and check out some great art.

Villa Sevilla is located on Callejon de la Igualdad #127 next door to Hotel Casa Cupola. There is very limited parking, so a taxi is recommended. Stop by and meet Rodolfo, you may find the perfect painting to fill a spot in your home or business.
