Denver businessman Luis Abarca’s commitment to the arts and culture of his homeland has produced one of the area’s largest private collections of Mexican fine and folk art. Art from the Abarca Family Collection will be on display September 13-December 16, 2012 in the Arvada Center Theater Gallery as the second of three annual fall exhibitions to be sponsored by the Abarca family. Last year’s exhibit was entitled OAXACA: In Living Culture.

This year’s exhibition, La Mexicana: Female Icons in Mexican Culture, will contain various art forms that feature and represent the power, influence and significance of females throughout Mexican history. Some of the images to be included pay homage to La Adelita, La Chicana, La Frida, La Luna, and La Virgen, to name a few.

The Arvada Center is proud to continue to partner with the Abarca Family as it strengthens a commitment to Colorado’s Mexican community and its culture. Adrianna Abarca, the show’s curator, states: "With these exhibitions we hope to develop an appreciation and pride of the vast amount, quality and diversity of art produced by people of Mexican descent."
