Bruce Springsteen Plays 'Fun' Show in Mexico City

go to original
December 12, 2012

Bruce Springsteen played his first ever show in Mexico on Monday night as the final show of the 2012 Wrecking Ball tour. It was held at the Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City and drew about 9,000 fans.

Mexico City, Mexico - Bruce Springsteen played his first ever show in Mexico on Monday night and although it was a pretty standard set list, my friend Michael Hayes, who was there, texted me to say "This is a good, solid, and really fun show."

It was the final official 2012 show of the Wrecking Ball tour, not counting of course, the 12-12-12 show at Madision Square Garden on Wednesday night for which I'm hearing Bruce and the E Street Band will be the opening act.

"Springsteen repeatedly told the crowd how surprised he was at how much they loved his music," Hayes said. "He was genuinely thrilled with how the audience seemed very lively and extremely enthusiastic."

The show at the Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City, drew about 9,000 fans to the 17,800-seat arena according to Hayes. Also, when the general admission line first entered the arena, only about 125 fans were in line, he said, something unheard of at Springsteen shows anywhere else. General admission lines usually have anywhere from 400 to 1,200 fans in them.

The show got off to a late start, about 9:15 pm local time and was three hours and six minutes long. The Boss played 26 songs.

No real surprises in the set list, the Apollo Medley returned for the second straight show and "The Promised Land" was a sign request. Also "The River" and "Born in the USA" were played, songs Bruce seems to always perform at shows outside the US.

"Bruce told the crowd he would get back to Mexico again," Hayes said. "He said that 'he was sorry he hadn't been there until now' and the crowd totally erupted."
