Mardi Gras Parade Through Southside Not Happening

February 1, 2013

One of the most anticipated events of the season has always been PV's version of the Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Parade through the Zona Romantica. This year the wild and colorful event is not going to happen

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Over the past 4 years, one of the most anticipated events of the season has been Puerto Vallarta's version of the Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Parade through the Old Town Romantic Zone. What was to have been the 5th anniversary of the wild and colorful event on February 12th, is not going to happen.

Carnival Vallarta, the original organizing committee from last year, has been fired. The City of Puerto Vallarta - under the new, more conservative leadership - has determined that the parade they produced, although very popular, was one that was too sexual in content. The city is now in the process of putting together a parade more in keeping with their family values and corporate sponsorship ideals.

The new concept is to have a parade rivaling Mazatlan’s - with corporations spending $50,000 pesos on floats. It is planned to travel from the Hotel zone to the Malecon, skipping the Zona Romantica. There will be no permit issued for a separate southside event

Please contact the city of Puerto Vallarta for parade entries, dates, etc.
