Gay Business Working Group Formed in Puerto Vallarta

February 27, 2013

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's a group of people pulling together at a time of economic crises. The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) business owners and businesses that welcome this community are joining forces to create a Gay Business Working Group. The goal is to create strategies to promote Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as a GLBT friendly destination for vacations and living full or part time.

Their first meeting will be held on March 4th at 2:30 pm, at the new Alamar Resort (formerly Meza del Mar Hotel) Amapas 380, Colonia Emiliano Zapata. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The two hour session will include a meet and greet and seven 5-minute presentations. This will be followed by a brief question and answer segment before breaking up into work groups. Participants can select the area where they have the most interest. Organizers are optimistic that the new working group will succeed in promoting the diversity of needs experienced by the GLBT business community.

This association was formed by owners and staff of five Banderas Bay companies: GayPV Guide, RK Supplements, Mijo Brands, RHOM Design and Video Diva Productions/Promotion & Publicity. "The GLBT community represents a large share of the tourist dollars spent in Puerto Vallarta, especially in Zona Romantica," says William Hevener, owner RK Supplements/Buen Flex Clothing, "The Gay Business Working Group hopes everyone will work together to pool resources and talent to advertise the area globally plus address issues to make PV more appealing."

"Mexico's reputation seems to run to the extremes," says Laura Gelezunas, owner of Video Diva Productions/Promotion & Publicity, "The good news is continuously released but it is not making the splash it should. That's why we believe the area needed a grass roots campaign to promote the area, placing the promotion tools and materials into the hands of the business owners that it directly affects."

Topics included in the first meeting will be an official gay Puerto Vallarta website, a video magazine show, PV Gay Pride, a diversity promotion strategy and an introduction to the new Almar Resort. This viable and vibrant community hopes many will attend and be part of the marketing solution, so everyone benefits.
