Saturday Shopping at PV's Old Town Farmers' Market

February 22, 2013

While at the Old Town Farmers' Market, be sure to stop off at Victor and Carmen's Perogi stand. Veterans of the Vallarta restaurant scene, the two are still serving up tasty treats to locals and residents.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - It's time, once again, to head on over to the Old Town Farmers' Market, where you can meet up with friends - both old and new - as well as mingle with local business owners. But before you grab your eco-friendly bag and start stuffing it with fresh produce and homemade goodies, did you know that the Market offers one-of-a-kind products and services?

It's true! The Old Town Farmers' Market has a wide selection of gift ideas and souvenirs as well as unique edibles and heart-healthy services. Make your way through the over 90 "make it, bake it, grow it" exhibits along Pino Suárez and Basilio Badillo in Zona Romantica.

Be sure to stop off at Victor and Carmen's Perogi stand. Veterans of the Vallarta restaurant scene, the two are still serving up tasty treats to locals and residents.

"We make Perogies, thanks to a kind woman who taught us her secret Ukrainian family recipe," says Victor, who used to serve Perogies in his restaurant. Together with their children, he and Carmen roll out the dough, cook and mash the potato filling, and sauté the other locally grown ingredients. "We sell our Perogies and give our customers cooking instructions."

In their first season at the Old Town Farmers' Market, Victor and Carmen are impressed with the turn out each week. "Since we started, we've been selling more and more. Sometimes, we even sell out."

Currently, there are four flavors: cheddar and bacon, cheddar and onion, cheddar and jalapeno, and the traditional Ukrainian-Polish blend of sauerkraut and sautéed onion. No matter the flavor, Victor always recommends eating Perogies with a side of sour cream. "It's just delicious," he says.

As you're continue on your way through the Market, say "hello" to Dr. Erik A. Fulfer's of Bahia Chiropractic. A third generation, board certified chiropractor, Dr. Erik is enjoying his second season with the Market. Before moving with his family to Puerto Vallarta, Dr. Erik had earned his certification and worked for ten years in a thriving Atlanta practice. And now, he calls the Banderas Bay his home. When he's not adjusting clients under the shade of his white Bahia Chiropractic tent, he is making weekday house calls.

"It's Chiropractic at your doorstep," Dr. Erik explains, acknowledging that the boom in his business is due to his involvement in the Market. Originally, he intended to meet and greet potential clients every Saturday. However, patients wanted to be adjust right then and there. And the rest is chiropractic history. "I have consistent clients who come every Saturday, but I also get a lot of people from all over the world. Often, it's their first chiropractic experience."

Dr. Erik is thrilled to be a part of such a health conscious community, sharing his version of a "no frills" type of chiropractic care. "After 13 years of practice, I've had the most fun here in Vallarta." For more information regarding Dr. Erik's chiropractic services, please visit BahiaChiropractic.com or call 322-182-5045.
