Handbags and Yogurt at the Old Town Farmers Market

February 28, 2013

While you're strolling through the Puerto Vallarta Old Town Farmers' Market this Saturday, be sure to check out the whimsical colors and patterns of handbag designer, Erica Maree.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The first of its kind in Puerto Vallarta, the Old Town Farmers Market is celebrating its 4th season as a producer-only event in Zona Romantica. With a "make it, bake it, grow it" philosophy, you will be wowed by the quality of products and services available for you and your loved ones.

While you're strolling through the exhibits, be sure to check out the whimsical colors and patterns of handbag designer, Erica Maree. A longtime admirer of hand-embroidered Oaxaca dresses, she added a twist to a Mexican tradition. Erica crafted a small handbag from her daughter's embroidered blouse, and soon, friends began ordering larger versions. Within six months, Erica had a product line on Etsy.

Inspired by the colors of Mexico, Erica works to bring creativity and functionality to her pieces. Oil cloth and indigenous beading from Chiapas are her latest trends, adding versatility to her already innovative line of handbags and accessories.

Today, Erica is enjoying her third season as a vendor and considers the Old Town Farmers' Market to be a staple for her international business. In fact, you can purchase an Erica Maree original this weekend at the Old Town Farmers' Market. For more information, visit ericamaree.com.

With your new Erica Maree handbag in tow, be sure to sample Joaquin and Blanca's family Greek yoghurt recipe. One of the Market's best-selling products, it is sure to tantalize your taste buds.

"We used to make this yoghurt for our parents and friends," explains Joaquin, a Mexico City native. Smitten by the natural beauty of their new home on the Banderas Bay, Joaquin and Blanca decided to introduce their 'no sugar, no salt, no preservatives' yoghurt to the Vallarta area.

"We use whole milk and Canadian cultures," Joaquin explains. "Good energy goes into our yoghurt. We treat the cultures carefully, because they are energy for our bodies and for life."

In their second season at the Old Town Farmers' Market, Joaquin and Blanca sell plain and vanilla yoghurt as well as dips made with various ingredients such as garlic, salt, Chipotle, olive oil, and fine herbs. When asked about his favorite Market moment, Joaquin smiles and says, "Whenever people try my yoghurt and say 'ah, it's wonderful!'"

As you continue on with your shopping adventure, be sure to stop by the International Food Court now in its new location at Nacho Daddy Restaurant on Basilio Badillo.

Whether you're searching for unique souvenirs or tasty goodies, you'll find it all at the Old Town Farmers' Market located on Basilio Badillo and Pino Suárez on the South side of Puerto Vallarta. The Market is held every Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 2 pm from the first Saturday in November to the last Saturday in May. For more information, visit the Market website at OldTownFM.com, or its Facebook page.
