Keeping it Fresh at Vallarta's Old Town Farmers' Market

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - While you're enjoying Semana Santa in sunny Puerto Vallarta, be sure to include the Old Town Farmers' Market in your adventures. As a favorite weekend attraction, this "make it, bake it, grow it" Market delivers the freshest homegrown and handcrafted artisan products for national and international shoppers.

As you're strolling through the over 90 producer-only exhibits, experience the local flavor of Todo Lacteos. This family owned business has been hand crafting natural cheeses since 2006. Oaxaca, Adobera, Adobera Botanera, Provolone, goat cheese, Panela, and Requeson are just some of the savory cheeses they bring to the Market each week.

"I learned how to make the cheese with my parents," says Rigoberto Gonzalez Ramos, owner of Todo Lacteos. "After that, my uncles shared formal techniques using fresh ingredients from the area." Today, Rigoberto and his family still use 100% pure milk from locally raised cows and goats. They knead their cheese, giving each a unique shape according to the style and size. The cheese is then allowed to rest, maximizing its flavor before it is sealed in a package for optimum freshness.

Rigoberto is quick to note that every Todo Lacteos product is free from preservatives. "The taste is exquisite," he says, "and our cheeses are as natural and as fresh as they can be when we bring them to the Market."

In their first season at the Old Town Farmers' Market, Rigoberto and his family are delighted to share their cheese-making passion with visitors. "I love to see the faces of people who taste our cheeses. While everyone has their own favorite, each person is completely satisfied with the quality of our all-natural products."

After collecting your favorite Todo Lacteos cheeses, be sure to stop by Eder Flores Arte Floral. With their freshly-cut tropical flowers, you can bring the beauty of Puerto Vallarta's flora indoors.

Owners Eder Flores and David Israel have been delivering fresh flowers, arrangements and foliage in Mexico for over fifteen years. After growing sunflowers on the Yucatan Peninsula, they opened their first floral shop in Cancun in 1998. Three years later, the two established their first shop in Mexico City. In 2010, Flores and Israel opened a successful business in Puerto Vallarta (Mérida 153, Col. Versalles). It was this same year that they decided to sell their brightly colored flowers at the Old Town Farmers' Market.

"We have the best quality in freshly-cut flowers in the area," says Flores. In fact, Flores and Israel plant their own flowers and foliage in three separate locations around Banderas Bay - Mascot, San Sebastian, and Puerto Vallarta.

"It's not easy working outdoors and coming the Market each week, but we know that our loyal customers will always be there, looking for our beautiful arrangements," says Flores. "Customers consider us to be a part of their lives, and that's priceless. Their enthusiasm encourages us to continue what we're doing."

Also, don't forget to join the Old Town Farmers' Market vendors and volunteers on Saturday, March 31st. With cake, balloons, and exclusive shopping specials, you won't want to miss this birthday celebration.

Come see what all the freshness is about this Saturday at the Old Town Farmers' Market. Located along Basilio Badillo between Olas Altas and Ignacio Vallarta, this "make it, bake it, grow it" Market is open from 9:30 am to 2 pm from the first Saturday in November to the last Saturday in May.
