Estación Gourmet Comes to Old Town Farmers Market

April 17, 2013
Every weekend, there is something new to discover at Puerto Vallarta's Old Town Farmers' Market - fresh produce and artisan products as well as community services and events.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Every weekend, there is something new to discover at the Old Town Farmers' Market - fresh produce and artisan products as well as community services and events. However, this Saturday promises to be one of the most exciting Market events of the entire season. Estación Gourmet, otherwise known as Station Gourmet, will be delighting the crowds with cooking demonstrations, tasty samples and free gifts.

Estación Gourmet is a community project established by the University of Guadalajara, a longstanding educational institute with eight regional locations in the state of Jalisco. Over the next year the University plans to open a gastronomical school and market in collaboration with local markets, restaurants and farmers - and they have chosen Puerto Vallarta because of its thriving gastronomical scene and importance as one of Mexico's top tourist destinations.

This weekend, Estación Gourmet will be featuring the talents of celebrity Chef Paco Morales. He is one of the most promising chefs in Spain. His technical culinary skills are fused with a deep appreciation for ingredients, creating cutting-edge cuisine with a focus in Contemporary Spanish Cuisine - Madrid Fusion. Chef Morales has worked in the kitchens of El Bulli and Mugaritz and has been honored as "Best Chef in the XXI Century under 30 Years" in 2007 by the Royal Academy of Gastronomy, "Best Chef Award 2008 Madrid Fusion," and "Best Cook in Progression 2008 Metropolis Award."

On Saturday, April 20, Chef Morales and his team will be treating the Old Town Farmers' Market visitors to some of his savory delights. Chef Morales will meet with the Market's local producers where he will select various ingredients from the exhibits for a tasting demonstration. At 12 pm, join Paco inside Nacho Daddy for bites and a video presentation.

In addition, from 10:00 am to noon, students will serve delicious samples at the ticket and promotions table located next to the Market information booth. Along with appetizing samples, they will be distributing 400 free aprons among Market visitors.

"We are very excited about this event," says Charlotte Semple, the Market's founder and director. "Since the beginning, we've wanted to involve local restaurants in the Market. The Estación Gourmet event is the first step in making that happen."

Chef Morales and his team will represent Estación Gourmet at various events around Vallarta including Biblioteca Los Mangos on Thursday, April 18, from 7:00-9:00 pm. On Friday, April 19th at 12 pm, the official launch of Estación Gourmet will take place at the Auditorium of Centro Universitario de la Costa University at Ixtapa, followed by an event at the Cuale Cultural Center starting at 7 pm.

Join us for a culinary celebration with Chef Morales and the students this Saturday at the Old Town Farmers' Market. Located along Basilio Badillo between Olas Altas and Ignacio Vallarta, this "make it, bake it, grow it" Market is open from 9:30 am to 2 pm from the first Saturday in November to the last Saturday in May.
