New Announcements for 'Vallarta Pride 2013' Event

May 6, 2013

The Organizing Committee of the event 'Vallarta Pride 2013' has been busy adding events to the calendar of the 3-day festival which will be held from May 24th to 26th in the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Organizing Committee of the event "Vallarta Pride 2013" has been busy adding events to the calendar of the 3-day festival which will be held from May 24th to 26th in the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone.

Supermana

The committee has confirmed that Mexican television celebrity "Supermana" has agreed to participate as master of ceremonies at various events and grand marshal for the Vallarta Pride Parade 2013.

Supermana's confirmation is another success for organizers. In his over 15 years in the entertainment industry, which include staring in nightclub reviews, clubs, cabarets, and comedy shows throughout Mexico and the United States, he has become a famous icon among the LGBT community.

The sexually ambiguous superhero is widely known for his appearances on the irreverent "Desde Gayola" (From Jail, as translated to English) on Televisa and Channel 52 television, the show "Nocturninos" and "Farándula 40" on TV Azteca.

Daniel Vives, the actor and singer who plays Supermana, was born in Mexico-Tenochtitlan and is a graduate of the Silvia Derbez Academy of Performing Arts. He recorded his first musical production in Spain, titled "Mírame" (Look at Me), and also appeared in the award-winning film production "Así del Precipicio".

Since the beginning, Supermana quickly became an icon of the LGBT community as one of the first drag queens presented on Mexican network television. He has performed in major musical productions across Mexico and the United States.

Homage to Frida Kahlo

Event organizers are also creating a tribute to the iconic, bi-sexual Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. An homage of her life and art will seek to regenerate the celebrated artist as a woman who refused to conform to societal norms and standards.

Her success as an artist came despite crippling health problems and a culture of machismo which ignored or downplayed the contribution of women to the world of art, society, business, and politics and is gaining increased attention from the LGBT community. Never one to conform, Frida Kahlo passionately engaged in or contributed to the discourse of all of these subjects.

Her intense love for art was mirrored by her passion for several notable figures in history including the exiled Russian Leon Trotsky, for whom she provided safe haven in her home for a couple of years after he was granted political asylum in Mexico in 1937.

The "Homage to Frida Kahlo" will take place at El Dorado Beach Club and Gallery on Saturday, May 25th. The art exhibition will run from 6 to 8 pm, while the screening of the Julie Taymor produced "Frida," will be screened at 8 pm on a massive outdoor cinema quality screen on the beach.

Parade organizers hope the homage to one of Mexico's most iconic and recognized artists, despite her short career, will help improve the way the LGBT and those physically challenged are portrayed in the mass media.

Participants in the parade are asked to look to Kahlo's life and art as they prepare their floats for inspiration in order to honor one of the most celebrated LGBT women in history.

In the coming days, Vallarta Pride organizers will reveal further details about the Vallarta Pride events which are expected to draw thousands of tourists from all over Mexico, USA and Canada.

Vallarta Pride runs from May 24th to 26th, 2013. For more information visit gaypv.mx or Vallarta's Pride Facebook Page.
