Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the ladies from Sweet Travel made a stop at the Centro de Acopio, The Animal Shelter.

"We are a women's travel company," says Natalie Garcia of Sweet Travel. "We go to different destinations and put together excursions in the community to get involved. We like to give back to each community. I am the head of the animal organization. I research and find the local organizations that are dealing with animals in the different cities that we go to and I heard about the acopio and we wanted to come and check it out. We brought donations, we are walking dogs, washing dogs, anything that they really need help with."

"There was a group that was coming to spend some time with the puppies and cats," says Sarah Clark, a Sweet Volunteer. "So I walked a dog, I fed a dog, I sat and chilled with the dog, it's all about the dog. It's been a great day and I miss my dog at home, so this kinda helps."

Sarah goes on to say, "It seems that the staff here is doing a really great job with the animals that they have, it seems that they could use donations of any kind. We brought in a bag full of leashes and collars and their faces just lit up because that's what people can do, they can help out if they are in the area, they can donate funds, they can donate goods, anything that can help the dogs and cats here that are looking for homes."

Sarah also has some great advice. "Take a trip and while you are there volunteer. Puerto Vallarta is beautiful, we've had a great time, the weather is perfect, and while you are here take a couple of hours out of your trip and volunteer to help out in the community and especially to help these beautiful little puppies and cats."

The shelter is always in need of donations, please contact Laura Gelezunas for more info and what they need right now, vallartadiva(at)gmail.com.
