Vallarta's Favorite Band, Los Bambinos, Keep Evolving

July 15, 2013
With a name change, a new CD and the music video release of the album's first single, the very popular four-brother Puerto Vallarta band known as 'Los Bambinos' just keeps on evolving.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - 'Los Bambinos,' the very popular four-brother local band that is often found entertaining diners at Olas Altas and Romantic Zone area restaurants, just keeps evolving. For those of you who haven't (gasp!) heard of them, we've included excerpts from previously published articles outlining their history that were written by their close friend, the wonderful and talented local author, Polly G. Vicars.

The eldest brother of Los Bambinos, Carlos Morales Salinas, began his career jumping on city buses, singing for the passengers and hoping when he passed the hat he would pick up a few pesos. He progressed to singing with his friends José and Galindo in the group Luz de Luna in the restaurants of Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding beaches.

While Carlos was enjoying success both with the group and solo, his three younger brothers Lázzaro, Immer and Giorgio were playing and singing in the assemblies of their schools. Their father, a musician who encouraged all his sons, suggested that they go out into the public and earn some money. Big brother Carlos spotted them one night hesitating in front of a restaurant, trying to get up their nerve to go in and ask people dining at the tables if they would like a song. Taking them in hand, they entered together, sang and played to enthralled diners.

The youngest, Giorgio, a plump 13-year-old at that time, whose voice had not yet changed, sang soprano like an angel! Lázzaro and Immer, 16 and 15, shy, slim, handsome young men, harmonized perfectly with older brother Carlos, 23, and "Los Bambinos," the pet name their father had for them, were born!

Soon this group of young musicians was attracting attention in Vallarta. People hired them for private parties and in the restaurants a song at one table was almost always followed by many more requests from other tables. They produced their first recording, Fiesta Music from Puerto Vallarta that was soon a sell out, and in 2005 the Band recorded Los Bambinos Salute to the Beatles. Both have been best sellers here in Vallarta.

Blaine Selkirk, who, at the time, was the producer and director of their concerts and their soon to be released new CD, quickly found that the name 'Los Bambinos' was already in use and they would have to come up with a new name. They came up with the name Metamorsa.

Today

After with Blaine under contract for five years, the Morales brothers have recently found the freedom of being their own producers and managers. One evening, while singing in the streets of Puerto Vallarta, they were approached by David Olvera, a local Television and video producer, who asked them to sing live for a popular Internet show he was producing at the time.

The Band was featured in the next episode, which got over 40,000 views. Soon after, Lázzaro contacted Olvera about doing a music video for one of their songs. After meeting with David the band decided on doing two videos, a short documentary on the band, and a music video of one of their songs.

David and his crew started working on the project right away, filming interviews with each band member, shooting one of Los Bambino's live shows at Roxy's Rock House, and then finally shooting the band playing at a birthday party.

During this process Olvera started to discover that the band did not seem happy or fulfilled with what they were doing, it seemed that they were doing a good job, but they were just lacking something. He also noticed a big difference from what they said their original style of music was and what they were actually performing.

This concerned David as to how successful the videos would be. The final breaking point was when he saw them perform at a birthday party, where they mostly sang Mexican Music; they looked comfortable, like they were having fun. After the party, he sat the band down and explained that these videos were going to fail because they did not have their heart and soul into the music.

The brothers immediately agreed with him and said that they needed to redefine their personal style and create a musical identity for the group. So David made the obvious suggestion: that they figure out who they wanted to be as artists, then record a new original album that reflects them as the group they are today.

That's just what they did... so, the band formally known as 'Los Bambinos' are now calling themselves The Morales Brothers. The brothers' new management and production company, Morales Brothers Productions, recently released the band's newest album, Mundo Ideal. The music video above features the album's first single, "Viaje Sideral."
