Vallarta Yacht Club's Fall Fundraiser 'Fiesta Cubana'

November 18, 2013

VYC's Junior Sailing Program is the only one in the country that does not oblige youngsters to provide their own equipment. Donations and proceeds from fundraising events makes sailing gear available to them.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Vallarta Yacht Club will be sponsoring their second annual fall fundraising event for the Junior Sailing Program. The theme is "Fiesta Cubana" and will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 6:00 pm - just after the first day of Races of the traditional "Regata de la Revolucion."

This event generally draws fantastic prizes - auction and raffle items donated by the many generous companies from the community - and is a great opportunity to socialize with friends while drinking, dancing, eating, and bidding!

Dinner plus drink tickets are on sale now at the Vallarta Yacht Club located at the Paradise Village Marina in Nuevo Vallarta. Adult tickets are $300 pesos, children 12 and under are $150 pesos, for Authentic Cuban food and fun.

Raffle tickets will be sold on-site. Drink tickets are $20 pesos each or 5 for $100. Of course, the drink of the night will be Mojitos, but full bar service will be open.

A Cuban salsa dance show and Cuban music will be provided throughout the evening.

Net proceeds from the event will go to financing scholarships and equipment for Vallarta Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program. One out of six children in the program are under a sailing scholarship program for which a 8.5 GPA is required. Other requirements include excellent conduct reports and a recommendation, financial need, supportive parents, and a great a desire to sail.

The Vallarta Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program is the only one in the country that does not oblige youngsters to provide their own equipment. Donations and proceeds from fundraising events makes sailing gear available to them. Along the way children gain self-confidence and pride in their accomplishments while learning life skills, such as decision making, team work, character development, as well as knowledge and love for the sea.

The VYC instructors are top ranked and every year their VYC Junior sailors attend the National Sailing Circuit Regattas where the best will qualify for the Mexican National team. As part of the national team they will represent the country in the most prestigious international events - such as the Optimist North, and South American Championships, and the Opti Worlds.

The live and silent auctions at Fiesta Cubana include fantastic items such as weekend getaways, dinner for two at Vallarta’s finest restaurants, extreme adventure and sailing cruises on the bay.

Probably the best items though, are the mother’s fresh baked goods – a nostalgic indulgence! - and the children’s masterpiece t-shirts that each child has created under the theme “My World of Sailing” to exhibit their view of the world as a sailor.

Also, the children will be preparing a video of their sailing experience for you from cameras that they will place on their boats and windsurf boards.

This Fiest Cubana Fundraiser is open to people of all ages and is a great opportunity for those interested in the sport of sailing. Any questions are welcome and can be directed to Rudy Trejo at the Vallarta Yacht Club (322) 297-2222, manager@vallartayachtclub.org.

Because we cannot do it without you, come to the Junior Sailing Fundraiser!

This event has been traditionally organized by the parents of the Vallarta Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program, who are very involved in developing youth sailing in Bahia de Banderas as well as in the individual growth of their own children. The discipline of the Sport of Sailing is a tool for raising independent, resilient, and free thinking children.
