A Long Weekend of Entertainment on the Paradise Stage

January 16, 2014

If you are looking for live entertainment in Puerto Vallarta, the Southside's Paradise Community Center has got you covered. A long weekend of incredible entertainment starts up tonight on the Paradise Stage!

Luna Rumba, one of Puerto Vallarta's premier bands, is getting things started tonight at 8 pm. Real acoustic instruments meet with electronic wizardry to create layers and depths of sound, while world rhythms excite audiences to get on their feet to dance.

Luna Rumba thrills audiences with their sonic tapestry of Latin Pop, Spanish Flamenco, Arabic and East Indian melodies, Cuban rhythms, Celtic riffs, and even Latin Jazz. Their shows are a celebration of musical fusion, human diversity, creativity, warmth and virtuosity. Fiery violins, rumba-flamenco guitar, hot keyboard riffs, and cool bass ride on top of the unstoppable polyrhythmic grooves created by the exotic percussion instruments and drums. If this weren't enough, be prepared to hear vocals that will melt your heart and warm your soul.

Local favorites The Banderas Bay Jazz Allstars return on Friday, January 17th, to continue their live recording. They have been working on some new material, mixing it up a bit this season - although they include some of the old favorites that people have come to associate with the band. Come be a part of it!

The world class musicians include Chas Eller on keyboards, Bryan Savage on alto sax and flute, Steve York on bass guitar, and Lázaro Poey on drums. Individually these players have had successful careers in the United States, Cuba, and the United Kingdom.

Now that these efficacious musicians are in the greater Puerto Vallarta area, they have united to create a tight in-control sound, bouncing off each other. Chas formed famed jazz group Kilimanjaro and individually they have performed with well-known ensembles and at jazz festivals. Their repertoire runs the course of jazz, blues. and funk styles. The members are so outstanding that each is given his time in the spotlight.

On Saturday, January 18th, don't miss Bedazzled Broadway! The stellar cast is back after a successful early season run in November. Gary Beck says, "BeDazzled Broadway is a new musical revue not to be missed!"

Saturday nights through February 15th, we celebrate fifty years of Broadway's best with Bedazzled Broadway! Featuring a professional cast of favorite Puerto Vallarta entertainers, this dazzling production showcases the best loved numbers from Broadway hits like Les Miserable, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Beauty & Beast, and South Pacific. This is a great show!

The stellar cast of actors/singers have played to rave reviews in many Vallarta shows. Credits include: Kathy Overly - Mama Mia and This Thing Called Love; Gaye and Todd Ringness - Dolly Would If Kenny Could; Sharon Baughman-White and David White - Moments to Remember and This Thing Called Love; and Elvis Martinez - recently featured at the Christmas Concert for the Puerto Vallarta Men's Chorus.

Program highlights include award winning classics like: "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - Evita; "With One Look" - Sunset Blvd; "I'm Not That Girl " - Wicked; "Music of the Night" - Phantom of the Opera; "Stars" - Les Miserable; and Oscar winning "I Dreamed a Dream" - Les Miserable.

Produced and directed by Sharon Baughman-White, Bedazzled Broadway vibrates with a fast pace, unique audio visual effects, creative staging, and colorful costumes. As a member of The Sound of Music's original Austrian cast, Sharon leads a special 50 year anniversary tribute.

The gates open at 6:30 pm with the Food Court and Paradise Cantina open to the public. Come early for the best selection of food items. We'll have roasted chicken dinners and among our vendors is Cesar from Asaderos. He'll be serving up some of his incredible ribs.

The Paradise Cantina serves up a variety of beverages. Everything from the crowd-favorite Paradise Margarita, wine and a fine selection of beer, standard cocktails, and soft drinks - all at very reasonable prices. Please come and join us!
