Democrats Abroad Welcomes Senator Tom Hayden

Senator Tom Hayden has played an active role in American politics and history for over three decades, beginning with the student, civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1960's.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Costa Banderas Chapter of Democrats Abroad is honored to have Senator Tom Hayden in Puerto Vallarta to attend the Democrats Abroad Mexico Annual Meeting. In addition, Hayden will be speaking on Monday, February 17, at the Hacienda San Angel Chapel regarding United States Foreign Policy as it relates to Latin America. His talk is titled, "OUR AMERICA: A New US Foreign and Domestic Policy Based On All the Americas."


Senator Tom Hayden has played an active role in American politics and history for over three decades, beginning with the student, civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1960's.

Hayden has spent 50 years in United States social movements including two decades in the California Legislature and membership in the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Platform Committee.

He has been active in opposing US foreign military and corporate interventions where they undermine progress in employment, energy and environmental policies at home. He served under Jerry Brown on the US-Mexico Border Commission, legislated the creation of the first Central American Studies program in the US [at Cal State LA], has written in opposition to the US drug war with its fixation on military solutions, and is a longtime editor and writer at The Nation magazine.

Senator Hayden has traveled extensively in Central and Latin America, writing a book about the Zapatistas and numerous articles about the revolutions in Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil and Chile. He is finishing a book on Cuba and the New Left, and is actively advocating in Washington DC for a normalization of relations with the US before the end of the Obama presidency.
