July 18 Puerto Vallarta News Brief & Weekend Events

July 18, 2014

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Puerto Vallarta news headlines and community announcements, plus a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.

Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson Relax in Punta Mita

Following their swanky July 5 nuptials at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, Calif., newlyweds Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson unraveled from their wedding at the luxurious Four Seasons Punta Mita Resort. The couple flew down to the stunning property for a secluded honeymoon, where they stayed in one of the hotel's presidential suites. "They had an amazing time and looked so in love during the entire visit," an eyewitness said. Johnson, a former pro football player, and Simpson had their choice of numerous ocean activity options, including snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, surfing, and even chartering a private yacht, but the couple spent most of their time at the pool or on the beach, just relaxing after their big day. The gorgeous locale was enough for the couple, who, according to the source, didn't even visit the spa.
"They just let the natural surroundings put them at peace," an insider said.

VBG Hosts Sentinel Plant Network Workshop

A Sentinel Plant Network Workshop will be held at Vallarta Botanical Gardens July 23-25, 2014. The Sentinel Plant Network (SPN) is a program through the American Public Gardens Association to combat the spread of plant pests and pathogens by empowering botanical gardens to become centers of early detection. Their extensive and active network in the US and Canada is expanding to Latin America for the first time in a workshop hosted by the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. This workshop will be attended by botanical garden staff from throughout Mexico, the Caribbean, and elsewhere in the Americas. Participation in this SPN workshops is coordinated through program manager, Daniel Stern.

Mi Vida En Sayulita Available on Netflix

Sayulita, the Surf Capital of the Riviera Nayarit — also known as the "hippie chic" village — is making the rounds of Latin America via Netflix, the popular, international on-demand Internet streaming medium. The series Mi Vida En Sayulita (My Life In Sayulita) from Cisneros Media Distribution (CMD) and produced by Sayulita Life Productions, was launched in June to all the Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas. The story revolves around a group of youths who experience an extraordinary vacation while visiting the marvelous beaches of Sayulita’s tropical paradise. It showcases the free spirit that pervades this coastal village and how it changed the life of the seven protagonists. The Riviera Nayarit video will be one of the offerings brought by CDM to present to the more than 400 buyers and 150 exhibitors from 45 countries at the NATPE Europe Roundup, an annual conference that brings together buyers and sellers of fresh audiovisual productions. It’s expected the series will be watched throughout Europe with subtitles in other languages.
