Free Introduction to Opera Lecture at Teatro Vallarta

September 22, 2014

The free Introduction and History of Opera lecture will be offered at Teatro Vallarta on Saturday, October 4 at 4 pm in Spanish and 5:30 in English. For more information, visit TeatroVallarta.com, or call 222-4525.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Teatro Vallarta has just announced a free Introduction and History of Opera lecture, to take place on its premises on Saturday, October 4. The 90-minute event, presented by Vallarta Lifestyles Managing Editor, Paco Ojeda, will be offered at 4 pm in Spanish and 5:30 in English, as part of the venue's strategy to arouse more interest among visitors and locals to enjoy its music and cultural offerings.

The lecture also serves as an introduction to the upcoming Met: Live in HD 2014-15 season of opera matinees broadcast live from New York's Lincoln Center on selected Saturdays from October to April. This will be Teatro Vallarta's third consecutive year offering the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning performance transmissions.

Aside from his work for Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group, Ojeda has hosted previous opera broadcasts at Teatro Vallarta, offering free introductory lectures prior to them that aid theatergoers in getting the most out of the experience. "Music has always been essential in my daily life, and my hope is to get as many people excited about it as possible," he commented.

In recent months, Ojeda has offered similar lectures to faculty, students and their parents at the Puerto Vallarta Youth Orchestra's Pitillal campus. He has also lectured about music at Arkos University in Colonia Emiliano Zapata and at The Palm Cabaret and Bar.

"It is worth mentioning that we frequently think of opera as a complicated, even boring high-brow event," he added. "But just as there are great and not so great movies, there are all kinds of opera productions nowadays. The best ones are designed to entertain and enlighten audiences. My goal here is to create connections between the audience and the broad operatic repertoire we will get to enjoy during the upcoming Met opera season so more and more people will attend."

Thanks to state-of-the-art audio and video broadcast technology, The Met: Live in HD broadcasts offer audiences a unique experience of enjoying the best virtual seat in the house, along with interviews with cast and crew, as well as glimpses behind the scenes during intermissions.

The broadcasts are very successful, worldwide, and in Mexico are well attended in metropolitan destinations such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, León and Mexico City. "Local attendance has been on the rise," commented Salvador Luna Peña, Teatro Vallarta's Artistic Director. "Presently, our primary audience is the expat community. As such, we offer the operas with English subtitles. We hope that attendance will continue to increase, particularly among locals."

The free Introduction and History of Opera lecture will be offered at Teatro Vallarta on Saturday, October 4 at 4 pm in Spanish and 5:30 in English. For more information, please visit Teatro Vallarta online at TeatroVallarta.com, or call (322) 222-4525.
