Diego Luna Films New Movie in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

November 4, 2014

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Actor-director-producer Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Color Purple, 2012) and Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) will star in Diego Luna's English-language Mr. Pig, a road movie set in Mexico, which has just gone into production in Puerto Vallarta and several other locations around Banderas Bay.

Last week, the film's actors and producers were working on Pelicanos street in Marina Vallarta, when neighbors surrounded the set to watch the filming of the movie. Fans waited respectfully for breaks in the filming so that they could have their photos taken with Diego Luna, who graciously posed and signed autographs for them. The municipal authorities provided support for the production team and actors, so that they could perform their work without interruption.

"Mr. Pig" focuses on a farm-worker, played by Glover, who travels from the US to Mexico accompanied by a pig, with which he strikes up a type of friendship. The film contains images of Puerto Vallarta, as well as other municipalities in the state of Jalisco.

"It has been a pleasure to work in Puerto Vallarta. It is a city I know well, it has many idyllic places to film, and we are grateful for all of the attention we received from the people here," said Diego Luna.

The film was written by Luna and Augusto Mendoza, who worked together on Luna's previous project Abel. It will be produced by Canana, the Mexico City/LA production house which Luna founded with Gael Garcia Bernal and Pablo Cruz. Mundial, the joint sales venture of Canana and IM Global, is handling international sales.

Producer Cruz said: "Mr Pig is a beautiful road movie, and a chance to talk about love for Mexico through the eyes of an American. It has a US appeal because of Danny and its English language. It obviously has a Mexican appeal because of Diego and other Mexican actors involved. And we're looking to Mundial to take it into international markets."

Mr. Pig adds to an extensive list of internationally acclaimed movies, such as The Night of the Iguana starring Richard Burton and Ava Gardner; Jacqueline Le Magnifique with Jean Paul Belmondo; and Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger, that have been filmed on location in this idyllic seaside destination.
