November 28 Vallarta Happenings and Weekend Events

November 28, 2014

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of next week's Vallarta happenings, some community announcements, and a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.

Help the PV Garden Club Beautify Vallarta!

Are you missing working in the garden and getting your hands dirty? The PV Garden Club (PVGC) would love to have you come and add your energy to our efforts to beautify Puerto Vallarta. The PVGC's mission is to beautify and protect the environment through civic planting projects and education and horticultural programs in Puerto Vallarta for the enjoyment of our residents and visitors, and on Tuesday, December 2 at 9:00 am, we will be meeting at the corner of Basilio Badillo and Olas Altas for our first Garden Club Work Party of the season. We hope to get Basilio Badillo cleaned up and pruned, and if enough volunteers show up, we will spruce-up Olas Altas also. If you have them, please bring work gloves, pruners, and diggers. From past experience, I can tell you that it is amazing how much we can get done with at least 12 volunteers. If you can join in the effort, please send an email to PVGC member, Jim Dumke at jadumke(at)aol.com. If you are interested in making Puerto Vallarta more beautiful, tourist friendly, and increasingly prosperous, please visit the PVGC website, VallartaGardenClub.com, for more information and meeting times. New members are always welcome - and needed!

Rocky Mountain High Debuts in Puerto Vallarta's Red Room Cabaret

If you are a John Denver fan, you won't want to miss "Rocky Mountain High - The Music of John Denver," featuring Paul Aleman and Renee Armand in the Red Room Cabaret next month. Hear the music and hear the stories behind the music from John Denver band member, Renee Armand, who performed with John for several years and appears on the DVDs Thank God I'm A Country Boy (Live in Australia 1977)" and also on Rocky Mountain High (Live in Japan 1981). Renee sang the Academy Award winning song The Morning After in the movie "The Poseidon Adventure," and wrote One Day In Your Life, which was recorded by Michael Jackson. She also wrote I Dream of Highways with Hoyt Axton and performed with 'The Coyote Sisters.' The duo will be presenting the music of John Denver along with stories from the road and insight into the music on December 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12 & 15 at 7:30 pm in the Red Room Cabaret at ACT II Stages, on the corner of Insurgentes and Basilio Badillo on the South side of Puerto Vallarta. Tickets are now on sale at the STAGES box office or online at VallartaTickets.com.

Puerto Vallarta Orchestra School Winter Concert: 'La Música en Escena'

The Orchestra School of Puerto Vallarta is pleased to invite you to its winter concert, La Música en Escena ("Music On Stage") on Friday, December 5th at 7:30 at Teatro Vallarta. This special charity concert features melodies inspired by stories of great heroes and terrible tragedies - stories that are told through music. With musical selections ranging from Tchaikovsky's famous Waltz from The Sleeping Beauty to Elliot de Borgo's Aboriginal Dance Rituals this 1 hour and 30 minute-long concert will be an enchanting experience. Tickets cost $200 pesos and are on sale now at TicketMaster.com.mx or at the Teatro Vallarta box office, located at Uruguay 184, just south of Ley’s grocery store on the main street as you enter downtown, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm. All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Polígono de Desarrollo Controlado del Centro Histórico de Puerto Vallarta (Controlled Development of the Historic Center of Puerto Vallarta), which in turn will forward the money to neighborhood associations in the six colonias that make up the polygon to help them continue promoting the culture and conservation of our city, and keep their economic and social development projects and efforts moving forward.

2014 National Beach Volleyball Circuit Comes to Puerto Vallarta

With support from the Federal Government through SEMARNAT, the State and Municipal Governments and the private sector represented by CANACO, the Circuto Nacional de Voleibol de Playa Puerto Vallarta 2014 (National Beach Volleyball Circuit Puerto Vallarta 2014) will be held on Holi Beach (between the Grand Venetian Hotel and the Peninsula tower) December 5 to 7th from 8 am to 6:30 pm. Both men and women are encouraged to participate in the tournament, with registration fees of only $250 pesos per 2-member team. According to Event Director, Lic. Ruth Mariza Aceves Suro, teams from various parts of the Republic and major national beach volleyball athletes, like Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros, and Bibiana Candelas and Martha Revueltas, are just some of the players who will compete for the $80,000 pesos in prizes to be awarded. Puerto Vallarta Tourism Secretary Lic. Ludwig Estrada stressed the importance of supporting events such as these because they not only generate income but also encourage local youth to participate in high level sporting competitions. The tournament is free and open to the public, so come out and enjoy some hot beach volleyball action!
