PV Poker Tour Fundraiser for Puerto Vallarta Charities

December 8, 2014

Advance tickets for the December 13th 'P.V. Poker Tour Fundraiser' may be purchased at any of the participating locations - all of which are located in Old Town and downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On Saturday, December 13th, the American Legion Post 14 of Puerto Vallarta will hold their Annual "P.V. Poker Tour Fundraiser," a charity event benefiting Corazón de Niña, Torpedos American Football - Youth Sports and American Legion Community Relations Projects.

Participants will be required to make a $100 peso donation to take part in the event, which will start at 1:00 pm at Steve's Bar, American Legion Post 14 headquarters. Next we'll go across the street to Nacho Daddy, where we start the tour.

The participating bars are providing participants with taxi buses, so players can ride or walk to the 5 other stops on the Poker Tour. At each stop participants will select a card, and choose the best 5 cards for their final hand.

We'll stop in at Thirsty Cougar, Monchi's 3rd Base/Pour Favor, Escondida Sports Bar, Que?Pasa, and will finish up around 4:30 at Murphy's Irish Pub on the Malecón, where the poker hand winners will be announced.

Even if you have a crummy poker hand, be sure to make the stop at Murphy's, where you can buy a 50-50 raffle ticket for your chance to win some cash, or take home one of the many great gifts that will be given away during the raffle prize drawings.

100% of the $100 peso entry donations will be divided amongst the charities, with Corazón de Niña and Torpedos American Football each receiving 40% of the proceeds. The remaining 20% will go towards the American Legion's Community Relations Projects around Banderas Bay.

Fifty percent of the 50-50 ticket sales proceeds will be divided between Corazón de Niña, Torpedos Youth Sports and Community Relations Projects. The other half will be distributed to the Poker winners, with first place receiving 50 percent, second place picking up 30 percent and third place getting 20%.

Corazón de Niña is a local non-profit children's shelter dedicated to providing housing, education, food, medical care, and love to young girls who have been removed from shockingly abusive situations.

Youth Sports, which is highly supported by American Legion Post 14, features Futbol Americano in the Banderas Bay area and includes Vallarta's "Torpedos." They operate similar to US Pop Warner football, with boys and girls ages 7 to 18 playing.

In addition to contributing to the community through various fundraising efforts, the American Legion Post 14 is also working through the Jay Sadler Project, the Recreation Director of the municipality, the Navy League of Vallarta and DIF to provide necessary resources and manpower to improve various institutions in the Banderas Bay area.

These institutions include Day Care Centers, Senior Citizens Homes, Schools for the Disabled and Deaf, Public Schools in rural areas and other private institutions needing building maintenance. For a list of some of the projects completed, click HERE.

Future American Legion Community Relations Projects include painting and repairs to the DIF Orphanage for boys in Coapinole; a building addition at the School for the Deaf (in partnership with Club Rotario Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita Foundation); building a wall and painting desks at the Jesus Ruiz Aquilar School in San José del Valle; painting and repairs at the Santa Barbara Rehabilitation Clinic and assisting San Ignacio Assist in building a community center.

Advance tickets for the P.V. Poker Tour Fundraiser may be purchased at any of the participating locations - all of which are located in Old Town and downtown Puerto Vallarta. Steve's Bar is located at #286 Basilio Badillo in Old Town. Telephone is (322) 222-0256. For more information, email Dennis Rike at dennis2rike(at)hotmail.com.
