As we welcome the New Year, we'd like to thank you for supporting BanderasNews.com over the years. In 2015 we begin our 15th year as Puerto Vallarta's Liveliest Website! and we couldn't have done it without you!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Vallarta news headlines, some community announcements, and a couple of upcoming local events that you won't want to miss.

New Pinnicular at Pulpito Plaza Arrives

Yes, there is a Pinnicular at the Pulpito Plaza on Olas Altas at Pulpito Street. The new Pinnicular was delivered last week and will be operational as soon as the first week in January 2015 when technicians are able to complete the final details. According to the developer of Signature and Pinnacle Properties, this is a temporary version of the actual one that will remain a permanent fixture at Pulpito Plaza. Electrically powered, the new Pinnicular is coming from a company in Guadalajara called PARALIFT. They have a great reputation having supplied funiculars in other parts of Mexico, including Acapulco and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. PARALIFT's products are engineered to withstand tropical climates & oceanfront living.

'The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940' Opens Friday at ACT II

Ringing in the New Year on January 2! A hilarious "whodunit;" the name says it all. Music, comedy, and murder. The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is set in the mansion library of Elsa von Grossenkneuten in Chappaqua NY in 1940. She has invited the crew of a musical that had a series of murders associated with it to her home to consider a new show which she will produce. This is actually a ruse to reopen the cold case of the Stage Door Slasher. To tell you any more would spoil the fun. This Murder Mystery is a nonstop ride of laughs and mystery, directed by Danny Mininni. This is Danny's second time in the director's chair for this show. In 1990 his California production was honored by winning the L.A. Times 'Best Pick of the Week' with extended runs and sold out shows. MCM of 1940 will be starring many of Vallarta´s favorites. Act II founding member Elizabeth Ensor, Mary Amelotte, Anthony St Martin, Roger Uscila, Stephanie Wright Watts, Adam Bishop, Salvador Ruiz, Cherry De Lorenzo, Heidi Pitts and Hal Bonta. DATES: Jan 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 & 17th. Tickets can be purchased online at actiientertainment.com or at the box office. Opens daily at 12:00 pm . The Main Stage theater is located in the Act II Entertainment STAGES complex at Insurgentes 300 (corner of Basilio Badillo & Insurgentes) 2nd Floor, Zona Romántica Puerto Vallarta. Tel: 322.222.1512.

Boardwalk Project For San Blas Announced

Via a press release, the Director of the Maritime and Port Authority, Guillermo Ruiz de Teresa, announced plans for the construction of a boardwalk (malecón) in San Blas, Riviera Nayarit. This will facilitate the development of nautical tourism and both recreational and sports activities and will spur economic growth. He stated the work would commence next year and conclude in early 2016; it will incur an approximate investment of 100 million Mexican pesos. Ruiz de Teresa also added the project includes a boardwalk and complementary structures, including four docks, a loading ramp and several sports installations such as a beach volleyball court and play areas. The boardwalk will be located on the seafront extending from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) to the Fueling Dock along one side of the Fonatur building, which houses the offices of Mexico’s national trust for the promotion of tourism. According to the Maritime and Port Authority Director, the boardwalk will be 300 mts long, 850 of which will be set aside for an 8-meter wide avenue, with 450 meters reserved for a walkway.

Paella Competition Fundraiser for Corazón de Niña

Mark your calendars for January 10, 2015 from 5:00 until 9:00 pm, when Eddie's on the River will host a Paella Competition to benefit Corazon de Niña. You'll enjoy all you can taste Paella, a welcome drink, live music, dancers and lots of fun! 70% of the proceeds will go to Corazon de Niña, the home for girls who have been displaced due to high risk situations. Lets eat some Paella and raise some money! We would like this to be the first annual Paella cook off. Every event has to begin somewhere and we want this to be ours. The suggested donation is $300 pesos, and tickets are available at Carol's Boutique in Old Town Vallarta, Kristina's Salon in the Marina and Corazon de Niña. We have several entrants at this time including La Palapa and caterer extraordinaire, Mavi Graf. We are looking for more entrants so if you have a favorite restaurant that you would like to see enter why not mention this to them... we certainly will. Also, this is not limited to restaurants or caterers. If you believe that your Paella could be a winner, please contact Jamie Henderson at stageflight(at)rogers.com. We'll have great prizes for the winners. Eddie's on the River is located at Isla Rio Cuale #31 (near the cultural center) in downtown Vallarta.
