Puerto Vallarta Garden Club Working with the City

January 13, 2015

The majority of the trees and plants on the Los Muertos Pier Street (Calle Francisco Rodriguez) were donated by the Vallarta Garden Club. This past Monday, the city sent a crew there to continue the work.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Many of us enjoy a daily walk on one of the beautiful streets of Puerto Vallarta. You likely have noticed the on-going beautification of the pedestrian street leading to Los Muertos Pier.

This past Monday, the city of Puerto Vallarta sent a crew there to continue the work. Thanks to Archie's Wok, there's a model of the type of garden the City gardeners are replicating on the other garden there. The majority of the trees and plants on the Los Muertos Pier Street (Calle Francisco Rodriguez) were donated by the Vallarta Garden Club.

The Garden Club has also planted hundreds of bougainvillea throughout town. Planting, fertilizing, pruning, watering and supporting them with sturdy poles is entirely the work of members and supporters of PVGC. We encourage you to join the effort. Sponsor one at only $1,600 pesos. Donations can be left in care of our Treasurer, Matthias Vogt, at Mailboxes Etc. Box #298, or via Paypal through our website. You can be a sponsor of a planter too. Learn more on the Vallarta Garden Club website.

Puerto Vallarta Garden Club January Meeting

Don't forget to join us at No Way José! Restaurante - Bar for our Puerto Vallarta Garden Club Meeting on Thursday, January 15 at 11:00 am.

Our guest speaker will be Leslie Korn. PhD, MPH. Dr. Korn has lived in the Bahía since 1973 conducting traditional medicine and ethnobotanical research and directing a public health clinic serving indigenous communities in Cabo Corrientes.

Dr. Korn's topic will be "Banana peels for hemorrhoids and other fun medicines from tropical fruits, vegetables and plants." It should be a lively and informative talk. We all have plenty of banana peels around; how nice to find a good use for them!

Her books, Rhythms of Recovery: Trauma, Nature and the Body; Preventing and Treating Diabetes Naturally, The Native Way; and Medicinal Plants of the Jungle, will be available at the meeting.

We are arranging an after-meeting lunch with No Way José! Currently we do not have specific information. If you can join us for lunch after the meeting, please email Bonnie Mott at bonmott(at)hotmail.com to let her know you plan to stay. She will send you an email when we know our options.

Bring in new members and win a dinner for two. Member Julie Guerrero, our No Way José! host, offered a membership incentive at our last meeting – it is being extended to our February 19 meeting date. The person who brings in the most new or renewing members wins a gift certificate for two to No Way José! Dues are $300 pesos for an individual and $500 for a couple.

No Way José! is located on the south side of downtown at 5 de Febrero 260, just over the Vallarta street bridge on your left heading south from the Malecón.
The Vallarta Garden Club is registered as a non-profit organization in Mexico. Annual dues are only $300 pesos and are used to support the club's ongoing efforts to make Vallarta a more beautiful place.
