Do You Have Your Easter Bonnet Ready? Hop To It!

go to original
March 30, 2015

Men, women, straight, gay and everything in between are welcome to enter Casa Cupula's 2nd Annual Easter Bonnet contest. Judging starts at 1 pm with cash prizes in each category, so HOP TO IT!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Do you have your Easter bonnet ready? If not, you'd better HOP TO IT! Casa Cupula brings an old tradition to Puerto Vallarta with their Second Annual Easter Bonnet Party and Brunch, scheduled to take place at Taste Restaurant on Sunday, April 5, 2015 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

To celebrate the occassion, Taste @ Casa Cupula is extending their regular brunch to 4:00 pm and including lunch specialties, all you can eat with 2 Mimosas or 1 Bloody Mary for only $295 pesos. Come in a bonnet and get $100 pesos off!

Easter bonnets will be judged by a panel of PV celebrity judges including:

• Mike Hickman, of Casa Vallarta Interior Design and Easter Bonnet Aficionado

• Julie Guerrero, of No Way José! Restaurant and a great judge of fabulosity in general.

• And a few more surprises!

Judges will choose winners in 3 categories:

• Most Original
• Most Fabulous
• Best Use of a Theme

All you have to do is Google 'Gay Easter Bonnet' and you'll find lots of ideas. Recently a friend who lived in Boston mentioned the famous "Hat Sisters" there, and their Facebook page offers many photos with great ideas.

Easter Bonnet Ideas from Casa Cupula

Some say that size matters, as you can read here about an Atlanta Easter Bonnet Party. After all, a very large bonnet is definitely in contention for the "Most Fabulous" award.

But a good theme can easily win the hearts and minds of Bonnet lovers. For example, one can stick with a traditional Bunny theme. Other Easter themes might include eggs, or chicks, or even a religious theme.

Of course, one might choose to compete in all three categories, most fabulous, most original and best theme with a simple hat, like this little Geisha number. We're not sure what Geishas have to do with Easter, but rules are meant to be broken.

A simple floral Bonnet is always in style, and easy to prepare. Just get fresh flowers, a lovely hat, and a glue gun and you're set to go. And nothing can help cure that Semana Santa hangover like the smell of fresh flowers on Easter afternoon.

Of course, if you're going to look for the best and most fabulous, one must look to New York, which has a huge Easter Bonnet parade. Our friends at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS raised over $4 Million with their Easter show and Bonnet competition.

We even found a Fashion Club blog from New York tracing the history of Easter bonnets and outfits. They refer to the Easter Parade today as "more of a satire, like Halloween in the Spring." After all, who knew what kind of tradition this fine young woman was starting, which would of course be embraced so strongly by the gay community.

Not to say you have to be gay to enter! Men, women, straight, gay and everything in between are welcome! Judging starts at 1 pm. Get on it! Make your Bonnets!
