Six Fun Things To Do When it Rains on Your Vacation

June 18, 2015

Don't let a rainy day spoil your Puerto Vallarta vacation! Even when it's raining there are lots of fun things to do in family-friendly PV. Here, we've listed some suggestions for beating the rainy-day vacation blues.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - It's rainy season in Puerto Vallarta, but you shouldn't let getting caught in the rain spoil your vacation. As a world-class tourist destination, Puerto Vallarta offers visitors an unrivaled combination of simple pleasures and sophisticated charms that'll keep everyone entertained - even on the rainiest of days.

Here are six suggestions for beating the rainy-day vacation blues:

Indulge in a Spa or Beauty Treatment

A rainy day is a great chance to take a break from the sun and beach and enjoy a complete day relaxing and being pampered at one of the many spas in Puerto Vallarta. Our destination offers some of the latest massage techniques and most beautiful state-of-the-art spas, offering everything from the classic neck and back massage, to the latest body treatments and facials, to complete spa ceremonies that indulge all five senses. Some hotels and resorts even offer fun facials and spa therapies for children.

Spend Some Quality Time with Family and Friends

Are you in Puerto Vallarta with kids? As silly as it sounds, a rainy day while on vacation can be, in the end, a day well spent bonding with family. Play cards, board games, talk, or just simply order room service and enjoy a movie on TV at your hotel. All of the things you probably don't have time for back home.

But if you are here on your own or with your partner and you are not into playing games, sit back and relax! Escape from your hectic lifestyle and recharge your batteries. What better way to spend a day than having absolutely no plans? Take this time to immerse yourself in a good book, either at your hotel or at some of the cafes downtown, some of which even sell used books (in English) at reasonable prices!

Go Shopping at Galerías Vallarta

In this modern shopping mall, located in the Hotel Zone just north of downtown, you will find dozens of diversions for you and your family. With many internationally recognized stores and restaurant chains located here, along with shops, banks and much more, there's something fun for every taste and budget.

You can spend time strolling around the mall looking for the latest trends in one of the many name brand boutiques, or just sit back and enjoy people-watching. If you are not into shopping, there is also a casino and a game arcade, making it an ideal place to spend time with kids. When they start getting hungry, the mall offers a wide range of possibilities, from your favorite fast-food establishments to family-friendly restaurants like Sirloin Stockade and Chili's.

For art lovers, Galerías Vallarta very often has painting, sculpture and photography exhibitions by national and international artists or you can enjoy first-run movies at the Cinemex theater, which features movies in English and Spanish.

Visit the Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos

Located at Av. Francisco Villa 1001 in Colonia Versalles, Biblioteca Los Mangos is not "just a library," it is a true cultural and community center. It is a place where children and adults alike are able to go to read, study, use computers, take dancing lessons, paint, play chess and watch movies, among a multitude of other activities. The library is open from 1-9 pm Monday through Friday, and from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays For more information, call (322) 224-9966.

Explore the Vallarta Naval Museum

Located next to the Los Arcos Amphitheater on the Malecón in El Centro, the Puerto Vallarta Navy Museum and Naval Historical Center has been dedicated to exhibiting and preserving Mexico's history and culture since 2006. In addition to naval and maritime exhibits, the museum often exhibits artistic collections by local, national and international artists and photographers. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Watch the Rain Fall from a Beachfront Restaurant

Feeling Adventurous? Grab an umbrella and head over to Puerto Vallarta's most famous beach, Playa Los Muertos. Here, you will find some of the city's most popular beachfront restaurants, where you can eat, drink and be merry - without getting wet! You'll have front-row seats for watching the rain fall (and the occasional lightning show,) and many of the restaurants feature palapa roofs and live music that add to the tropical ambiance.

Whatever you decide to do, you are sure to have an unforgettable rainy day experience in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
