Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - To give more children between the ages of 7 and 12 the opportunity to join in the 'Summer on the Island' courses and activities organized by the municipal government of Puerto Vallarta, the registration date has been extended until Friday, July 17th.

Scheduled to be held from July 20 to August 7 at the Rio Cuale Cultural Center, the summer courses include: physical education, painting, sculpture, dance, ecology, drawing, cartoon drawing, mural painting, cinema, clowns and circus arts, nutrition, first aid and crime prevention. These courses are in addition to the permanent workshops: piano lessons, Latin American instruments, clay sculptures, painting, theater and recording, which will continue operating on the regular schedule.

"Summer on the Island" will feature prominent guest teachers, who will join the staff of the Cuale Cultural Center, including renowned artist Ada Colorina in the painting workshop; Melissa Castillo's Creative Dance lessons, and Martha Sanchez teaching Yoga for Children.

The Directorate of Environment and Ecology will participate in "Marine Ecosystems" talks; and students of the Centro Universitario de la Costa will teach a "Nutrition Fun" workshop, where children will be taught to eat healthily and burn calories.

During the last week of workshops, artistic activities will be conducted by way of final projects that involve the parents of students in different courses, thus encouraging the integration of team work. The main topic of this activity will be marine ecosystems; a way of raising awareness among children about the importance of environmental stewardship.

The registration fee is 250 pesos, which includes basic materials. The registration deadline is July 17 at the offices of the Vallarta Institute of Culture, located on the east side of the Rio Cuale Island, Aquiles Serdan #437 Interior 38. For more information, call (322) 223-0095 or 222-9534.
