Purr Project Shelter Update: The Dog Days of Summer

August 20, 2015

September is almost here and it's the month we encourage people to support the PuRR Project by "virtually" adopting a cat or giving it as a gift to a cat-loving friend. Click HERE to learn more.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Here's the latest news from Purr Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

Shelter Update: Dog Days of Summer

For PuRR, it has definitely been the "CAT" Days of Summer! Our nursery is once again overflowing with cute kitties. It is much too hot in the shelter clinic right now to use as an isolation area for new intakes, so all the casitas are full.

Unfortunately, adoptions are slow this time of year which limits our ability to handle all the many requests to take litters of kittens. Stress due to overcrowding is a real problem in most shelters around the world and it is no different here in Vallarta where all the animal rescue groups are feeling the pressure.

We can only do what available funds and space will allow to ensure a healthy environment for the animals. It costs about $100 USD to get each kitten ready for adoption... that's a lot of pesos we have to raise each year! For more information on how to contribute click HERE.

September is Virtual Adoption Month

September is almost here and it's the month we encourage people to support the PuRR Project by "virtually" adopting a cat or giving it as a gift to a cat-loving friend. Our website features some of our older felines who have either been passed over for adoption or are considered too feral to be suitable for a home environment.

In either case, at PuRR they are assured a home for life with two square meals a day and medical attention when needed. YOUR support is all that allows us to continue to be a SHELTER and not just a way-station for adoptable cats. Click HERE to learn more about how to virtually adopt and see photos of the adorable kitties up for adoption.

Thursday Night Marina Market: Volunteers Needed

The Thursday Night Market, which takes place all along the Marina Vallarta Malecón, features dozens of local craft and food vendors and has been very successful the last two years. It begins around the first of November and runs through the high season.

PuRR Project would like to participate again this year but we really need a volunteer (or volunteers) to take charge of this project. Basically, you set up a table in our assigned spot from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.

Another volunteer will bring you the PuRR logo T-shirts and other items for sale (2016 calendars!) plus a couple of kittens that will attract a lot of attention and hopefully be adopted as well. Having a car is a plus.

If you are interested, contact Linda at volunteer(at)purrproject.com for more information. It's a fun way to volunteer and we really need some help!

PuRR Project is a Non-Profit shelter in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal to adopt them out to loving homes. All of our residents have been sterilized, vaccinated and are disease free. We accomplish this through our own efforts as well as collaboratively with other animal welfare organizations. Both monetary donations as well as donations of dry cat food are most welcome – and much appreciated. For more information, visit PuRRProject.com or send an email to info(at)PurrProject.com.
