This Week at Daiquiri Dick's: 'Rainbow Cuisine'

January 11, 2016

This week, Daiquiri Dick's features South African cuisine through January 17, 2016. Reservations are recommended and can be made online at DDPV.com or by calling the restaurant at (322) 222-0566.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - South African food is colorful, interesting and completely foreign to most people. It also tastes terrific. The cuisine reflects the cultural diversity of the region. It is a combination derived from indigenous Africans, Indonesian and Malaysian slaves and settlers from all over Europe have all added their special touches to the recipes that define South African food. It is a cacophony of tastes and textures.

Traditional African food is generally cooked over an open fire or in a three-legged pot, so meat tends to be served either in a stewed or grilled form. A starch usually accompanies the meat, mieliepap (maize porridge), potatoes or rice. Beet root, carrots, cabbage and pumpkin are the vegetables most commonly served. Typical South African dishes include tripe, morogo (wild spinach), chakalaka (vegetable relish), amadumbe (root vegetable) and the ubiquitous boerewors roll (sausage).

Daiquiri Dick's Executive Chef, Ignacio Uribe, Chef de Cuisine, Hugo Mejia, and Sous Chef, Rogelio Garcia, have come up with some of the best of what is known as Rainbow Cuisine.

This a la carte menu is featured along with the regular menu and dinner is served from 5 to 11 pm. You can sample this intriguing South African menu from January 11 to 17, 2016.
