October News from Vallarta's Purr Project Feline Shelter

September 30, 2016

Donations are the only source of funding to provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the 200 + cats and kittens in residence at PuRR Project, a no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Here's the latest news from Purr Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

Upcoming Purr Project Events

• GARAGE SALE: The season is starting soon and we have our first fundraiser scheduled, the 3rd Annual Garage Sale on the weekend of November 12-13 in the Marina! If you have items to donate, please contact Marilyn at exkhan(at)usfamily.net for info on where to drop off or schedule a pick-up the week before the sale. So start cleaning out your closets, cabinets, office, kitchen and garage for those unwanted "treasures" that someone else will love to have.

• SHELTER TOURS: The tours dates for this season are: Nov. 16 & 30, Dec. 14 & 28, Jan. 11 & 25, Feb 8 & 22 and March 8 & 22. You and your cat-loving friends are sure to enjoy this unique experience of meeting all our PuRR residents and seeing some rural Mexico including the charming colonial town of San Jose del Valle... plus eating great tacos! You must have a reservation. Information on how to reserve, pick-up points, and lots more about Shelter Visits can be found on our website.

• KITTY BINGO: Once again we will be having Kitty BINGO every other Wednesday night starting on November 23rd. We'll be back at Margarita Gill on the corner of Basilio Badillo and Pino Suarez, where the margaritas are fabulous and you can win great prizes when you get a BINGO and yell "MEOW!" Cards go on sale at 4:30 and games start at 5:00 pm. It's a fun way to start an evening before sunset and dinner in Old Town Vallarta.

Simona's Senior Center Update

As of this writing, the new Senior Center is nearing completion and will be functioning by the time the Fall tours begin. It's always a challenge to do construction during the rainy season here in the tropics, but we pushed ahead and are pleased with the results so far. (The only problem is it's so nice that José wants to move into it!) Again, heartfelt THANKS to all those who contributed to making the dream of a casita for our aging felines a reality!

The PuRR Nursery

The nursery at the PuRR Shelter continues to overflow with only two adoptions in July, seven in August and so far only one in September! Unfortunately, some of our babies are growing up and it becomes much more difficult to find homes and many will end up in the PuRR gardens instead of a loving home. Please consider adopting one of our kitties before that happens! If YOU are ready to give a Furr-ever home to one or more, contact Linda at adopt(at)purrproject.com, or come see us at Plaza Marina on any Friday between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for a volunteer to help Livia with the Adoption Booth at Plaza Marina on Fridays from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. You would help unload the kittens and supplies and be available to talk to people who stop by the booth... hopefully to adopt a kitten! Spanish is helpful but not necessary. If you are interested or have questions, contact Linda at volunteer(at)purrproject.com for more information.

PuRR Project is a Non-Profit shelter in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal to adopt them out to loving homes. All of our residents have been sterilized, vaccinated and are disease free. We accomplish this through our own efforts as well as collaboratively with other animal welfare organizations. Both monetary donations as well as donations of dry cat food are most welcome – and much appreciated. For more information, visit PuRRProject.com or send an email to info(at)PurrProject.com.
