March 17, 2017

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Vallarta-Nayarit headlines, a few community announcements and a couple of weekend events that you won't want to miss.

Dama Juana Raicilla Festival, March 18 & 19

Often referred to as "Mexican moonshine," Raicilla is a Jalisco tradition that might not be as popular as Tequila, but certainly has a growing following. A distilled spirit made from the agave plant, Raicilla is similar to Tequila and Mezcal and is made by artisans with recipes passed down from generation to generation. If you'd like to know more about the spirit known as "the grandfather of tequila," you won't want to miss the first Dama Juana Raicilla Festival this weekend on the Rio Cuale Island. This 2-day cultural event will feature tastings, conferences, talks, poetry and drawing contests, live music and the screening of the documentary Los Caminos de la Raicilla. Members are active and retired Firefighters from the USA, Canada, and Mexico, who are working to help our local bomberos avoid injury while providing a better level of service, through advanced training and donations of equipment and vehicles to the Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta fire departments. Come out and meet your Bomberos, who will be modeling 'The Many Looks of Service' to demonstrate the different uniforms they wear. The event will also feature an emergency vehicles and tools exhibit, live music by Zoe Wood and The Traveling Band, and a photo session with the Bomberos at the end of the show. Donation tickets are only $200 pesos per person, and are available M-F from 11am-3pm at The Luna Lounge box office, Av Mexico #27 in Bucerías. In La Cruz, you can get tickets by calling Karen Cope at (322) 147-4831. Seating is limited, so get yours TODAY!
