Vallarta's First Free Mass Pet Sterilization Campaign

June 26, 2017

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There are many non-profit animal organizations in the greater Banderas Bay area that offer free spay and neuter clinics on a regular basis, but on July 8 & 9, the Puerto Vallarta municipal government is organizing the city's first free mass pet sterilization campaign.

Exhorted by the Congress of Jalisco, the campaign's goal is to stop the breeding cycle and reduce the number of dogs and cats that end up living on the streets in all 125 municipalities of the State.

Puerto Vallarta has been at the forefront of society and government working together to achieve better results in the area of animal welfare since 2015, when the Animal Care, Control and Surveillance Unit, aka the "Green Patrol," a legal arm of the Puerto Vallarta police force, was created with the objective of responding to animal abuse reports, to investigate, and to rescue abused and/or neglected animal when necessary.

The Green Patrol also works to raise awareness and promote animal protection through public briefings in plazas and parks to ensure that those who own pets take responsibility for their animals - and this free sterilization campaign is a fundamental part of the plan to continue improving our city.

So, with the support of Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña and the Jalisco Health Secretariat, the Puerto Vallarta Animal Shelter, along with the city's Green Patrol, the Department of Animal Welfare, and the Fundación Calle Cero, will be holding these free spay and neuter clinics on July 8th and 9th at the Municipal Administrative Unit (UMA) in Colonia Portales - by appointment only.

To make an appointment, animal owners must call the Department of Animal Welfare (322) 225-8837, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Clinic coordinators are expecting to receive more than 150 dogs and cats per day - so call today!

The free mass pet sterilization campaign is sponsored by the Puerto Vallarta Rotary Club, the Pet Friendly Puerto de Luna Hotel, Hello Bike Tours, Pet Palace, Ruímica Lab, Impulso de Aguila, Valapanza, Don Chonito Bakery, as well as the Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals, Purr Project, Dogs for Life and Sociedad Animal A.C. non-profit associations.

The UMA is located at Av. Mezquital #604, in Colonia Portales.
