To Go to Summer Camp, Vallarta Kids Need Sponsors

June 9, 2017

Not every child who wants to be a "Compañeros de Viaje" can afford summer camp. If you'd like to send a kid to Summer Camp at Los Mangos Library, please send an email to bibliotecalosmangos(at)gmail.com.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Biblioteca Los Mangos has just announced its summer camp, titled "Compañeros de Viaje" (Travel Buddies, in English) which will take place July 17 to August 11, and is available for children three to 13 years of age.

This year, Biblioteca Los Mangos has found its inspiration in El Libro Salvaje (The Wild Book, in English), a novel by Mexican author Juan Villoro, to develop a series of activities that will awaken the imagination and creativity of the children.

Adriana García, Executive Director at Los Mangos, explains: "In the book we learn about Juan, a child that is sent to Uncle Tito's house to spend his summer vacation. He anticipates this to be the most boring summer of his life. However, things turn out quite differently!"

Biblioteca Los Mangos has been offering summer camps for the past 15 years, relying on teachers and volunteers with first-aid and emergency experience, and offers the option to participate for the entire course, by week, or by day. "The camp is four weeks long - a little bit over 100 hours - with games, challenges, opportunities to create, to learn, but most of all, to have fun."

As in years past, Biblioteca Los Mangos is also appealing to Puerto Vallarta's altruistic community, hoping that individuals or businesses might be interested in supporting the project by sponsoring a child or two through the program.

"There is always a high percentage of children that, year after year, hope to receive a scholarship in our program," added García. "In years past, we've relied on the kind support of the library's community. We are extremely grateful, as this year, Fundación Careaga has already contributed with several scholarships, and trust that our community will help transform the lives of some of our children with their financial support."

Founded in 1996, Biblioteca Los Mangos is a non-profit association dedicated to provide the local population with cultural and academic activities for children, teenagers and adults, and to promote reading as an indispensable resource for learning and development. You can sponsor a child through the institution's summer camp with a $2,250 peso contribution per attendee.

To sponsor a child, please email bibliotecalosmangos(at)gmail.com. For more information about the summer camp (in Spanish), please visit bibliotecalosmangos.com.

Biblioteca Los Mangos is located at Av. Francisco Villa 1001 in Colonia Versalles. For more information, visit Biblioteca Los Mangos online or call (322) 224-9966.
