Puerto Vallarta's Taller OPC to be Inaugurated June 22

June 22, 2017

Taller OPC is a free invaluable resource for the community - containing a reading room with books on art, architecture and poetry; a space for lectures and workshops; and an exhibition space for student projects.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Taller OPC, which was unveiled during the May 27 opening of the Oficina de Proyectos Culturales' latest exhibition, You Are Here: Dichotomies of Landscape, will be officially inaugurated tonight (June 22, 2017) from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

From 7 pm to 8 pm, the La disipación de la identidad: Fotografías de un pueblo borrándose en el tiempo ("The Dissipation of Identity: Photographs of a Village Being Erased by Time") photographic exhibition by Daniel Calvillo (CUC Visual Arts student, class of 2018) will be inaugurated. From 8 pm to 9 pm, poetry and lyrics will be presented by Carmen Franco, Ramón Domínguez, Rebeca Santiago, Fred Aceves and Karina Macías. There will also be live music, courtesy of Alejandro Muraira and Valeria Moeller.

Taller OPC (OPC Workshop) was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Barlow family and William Hobi, as well as our many generous sponsors.

This addition to the gallery will not only allow the Oficina de Proyectos Culturales to offer a wider range of cultural and educational services to the general public, but will also serve as a multi-functional space that includes a workshop area and documentation center.

With the purpose of providing a free and invaluable resource to the community, the Taller OPC will also be THE place for local children and youth to enjoy summer activities. Amenities include a reading room with books on contemporary art, architecture and poetry; a space for conferences and workshops; and an exhibition space for student projects.

Thanks to donations of diverse materials, OPC Workshop will house a bibliographic collection that is unique to this city, specializing in contemporary art, architecture and literature, among which are a collection of poetry books by the poet Carmen Villoro (Jalisco 2016 award), editions of the Revista Luvina de Guadalajara, volumes of the CC-Catalog micro-library, Buró-Buró projects, a collection of Mantis Editores, and a selection of literature books and books by Perceval Press and Smart Art Press.

We welcome the public to OPC Workshop to read books, have a cup of coffee and engage in conversation with others. We are delighted that OPC Workshop is connected to the beautiful Martha and David Haynes Educational Garden and that the Oficina de Proyectos Culturales is able to continue with the always-free educational program in both spaces.

Open from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday through Friday and from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, the Office for Cultural Projects (OPC) is located at Juarez #598 at the corner of Aldama in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
