Works on Calle Morelos Revitalize Downtown Vallarta

November 9, 2017

In addition to making the street more attractive and giving it greater functionality, the public works recently carried out on Calle Morelos will be a trigger for the economic reactivation of downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - For residents and business owners in the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta, in addition to making the street more attractive and giving it greater functionality, the rehabilitation works recently carried out on Calle Morelos will be a trigger for the economic reactivation of El Centro, for which they acknowledged the efforts made by Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peńa to revitalize the heart of the city.

José de Jesús Palacios Bernal, the president of La Unión de Propietarios de Fincas Urbanas de Puerto Vallarta (Union of Urban Estate Owners) and a resident of this area, affirmed that this type of work was needed. "With these works that were made, and are still being made, like the street lighting, public benches and trash bins, not to mention the extension of the sidewalks and the alignment of the vehicular stream, we know that this street will be reactivated. It will stop being 'the backyard of the Malecón' and go back to being a commercial street, and that gives us great pleasure; we really celebrate that interest on the part of the municipal authorities, and the municipal president in particular, to reactivate the city center," he said.

Palacios Bernal said that although these works caused some small inconveniences, they were minor if one takes into account the benefits that will be brought to this area of the city's center. "I think it was well worth it when you consider the great benefits the renovations will bring to Calle Morelos, which is going to be very important commercially and economically speaking, not just for the downtown area, but for all of Puerto Vallarta."

That is why he congratulated Mayor Arturo Dávalos, "for being so decidedly interested in reactivating El Centro. Of course the colonias are very important, but we must not forget that El Centro is the heart of Puerto Vallarta... it is the part that gave our tourist destination a name and an identity, so it is good that the mayor is worrying about reactivating it, and knows that these improvements not only benefit El Centro, but the entire tourist destination."

Sra. Silvia Elena Palacios agreed, saying that Calle Morelos needed "to be fixed quickly, but thoroughly... and they did a good job. So now it will be up to the citizens, neighbors and merchants to take care of it, as well as the vegetation and fixtures that were installed along this road."

She stressed that Calle Morelos' new image and improved functionality will motivate new tourism businesses to open on this street. She recognized the Mayor for undertaking these works, saying, "Thank you very much, Mr. Mayor, I thank you with all of my heart."
