April News from Puerto Vallarta's PuRR Project Shelter

April 5, 2019

Donations and fund raising events are the only source of financing to provide food, shelter and veterinary care for the 200 + cats and kittens at PuRR Project, a no-kill shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Here's the latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

ADOPTIONS

One of our core missions is to find homes for abandoned or rescued kittens after they are tested, dewormed, vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Last November we opened a weekly Adoption Post at the new PetCo and it continues to be promising with and average of 7 adoptions per month. While that is great news, our clinic and nursery are still full of adorable kittens and "kitten season" is just beginning! So come check us out at PetCo any Friday, Saturday or Sunday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and maybe meet your new kitty!

We will also continue to have our Saturday Adoption Post at Daiquiri Dick's through April (except for the weekend of the Garage Sale) and we've had six adoptions there this season. It's also your opportunity to get your PuRR logo T-shirts, caps, and shot glasses... PuRR-fect for you, your cat-loving friends, or family back home!

ADOPTION UPDATE: SAVANNAH

In February we featured Savannah and her brother Rhett. Savannah was born with only one eye and continued to be very shy and wary of humans even after fostering. But she was very brave when taken to PetCo for an Adoption Weekend and found a purr-fect home with Areli Garcia and her husband. Areli reports that Savannah has adjusted to her new home and is very happy. Meow!

UPCOMING EVENTS

We had out last Kitty BINGO and Shelter Tour in March and want to say THANKS! to everyone who came out to support us and hope to see you again next season! We only have two more fundraising events left this season:

GARAGE SALE: Saturday, April 6th at Gaviotas #143 in Marina Vallarta. Doors open at 8:00 am and we have lots of good "stuff" for sale at amazing prices. This sale will help feed the shelter cats all summer so please come out and shop!

VALLARTA PRIDE BINGO: PuRR Project and SETAC will join forces on Tuesday, May 21 at 3:00 pm at Nacho Daddy for an afternoon of BINGO with the fabulous Amy Armstrong! Advance ticket sales will be announced soon and will include 8 games of BINGO and the 50/50 Raffle. There will also be additional raffle prizes, so mark your calendar as you don't want to miss this one!

A PURR-FECT FLOAT!

The 2019 Punta Mita Carnaval took place on Friday, March 1st with 26 golf cart floats under the theme of the Pacific Ocean. PuRR Project was spotlighted by the Purr-fect day on the Pacific float created by Lane and Karan Borges and piloted by Karan, Marilyn Kahn and Brenda Gill. While they didn't win an award (the competition was fierce!) they had a great time! The floats, created by residents and businesses, wound through the St. Regis and Four Seasons lobbies and into the streets of Punta de Mita in a fun and colorful parade. Following the parade, a fun evening was had on the driving range with music, food and incredible Carnaval entertainment. It was a great party and celebration - Punta Mita style!

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! ARIGATO!

We could not get through the long summer months without our regular contributors and we offer you heartfelt thanks for your support: Charlie & Carol McCullough, Heather Sullivan, Sharon & Ken Rose, Gary Phillips, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Heidi Benedict, Larry Sherwood and Julie Clawson. We also appreciate recent donations form Richard Robertson, Dana & Claire Dowell, Karen Miller, Ron Davis and Sylvia Schulz.

It's easy to choose a way to donate on our website... from scheduled donations through PayPal, Virtually Adopting a cat, or shopping on Amazon Smile! And remember we are a 501(c)3 non-profit with tax exempt status.
