Vallarta's favorite beach restaurant will be hosting the 4th Becas Breakfast of the season.
Breakfast will be the most important meal of the day on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, 9:30 am, at El Dorado Restaurant on Los Muertos Beach. They will be hosting the 4th Becas Breakfast of the season.

This local's favorite beach restaurant will serve a typical Mexican Breakfast while Becas Vallarta features our ever popular raffle of gift certificates and prizes from Vallarta's best shops and restaurants, helping to assure that scores of young girls and boys of great ability and small financial resources will continue to have their scholarships funded.

The $150 peso tickets, which must be purchased in advance, go very fast. So get yours now from any member of Becas or from me.

Despite the world's economic turndown, the Becas Breakfasts this season have all been sold out and no local business has turned us down when asked to donate! How great is that? Seems as if most agree with us that no matter what, we must help our bright young people get the educations they want and deserve.

As proof of the importance of keeping this almost 50 year old foundation solvent, I want to share with you portions of a letter we got this week from a former scholarship student who has recently returned to Vallarta.

She wrote, "I am so thankful to the foundation for the support you gave to me in my career. After I got my degree as a scholarship student, I married and moved to Tijuana. But now I have returned to Vallarta, and I want to join the foundation and to support it in every way possible. I am waiting for your answer and your orders!" You will certainly get to meet this former becada at future events as we have welcomed her into our membership and know that she will be a vital link to the community.

This breakfast isn't your only opportunity to help Becas Vallarta while having a great time during February. You may have a fantastic evening of classical music by Alejandro Villarreal and Daniel Juárez on piano and violin at the Becas Vallarta Valentine Benefit Concert Under the Stars at the Westin Hotel.

The concert begins at 7 pm and tickets are only $200 pesos for adults and $100 pesos for students. For tickets to the concert and the breakfast, contact me at 223-1371 or phvicars(at)gmail.com.

As our former student wrote, I, too am waiting for your answers and your orders of tickets!
Polly G. Vicars and her husband of almost 60 years, Hubert (a.k.a. "Husband") retired to Puerto Vallarta in 1988 and soon became active members of several charitable organizations. Polly is the author of "Tales of Retirement in Paradise: Life in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico" [a sell-out!] and "More Tales of Retirement in Puerto Vallarta and Around the World." Proceeds from the sale of her books go to the America-Mexico Foundation, a scholarship foundation that is their passion.
