There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. So we've put together a brief overview of some of this week's news headlines from local Spanish language publications, and added some upcoming events you won't want to miss.

54th Marlin & Sailfish Tournament a 'Roaring' Success

Last week Puerto Vallarta had the pleasure of hosting the 54th edition of the International Marlin and Sailfish Tournament, and in many ways, such as the organization, atmosphere, the number of participants, the number of fish caught, and with the exception of fire on board of one participant’s boat, the tournament was a great success!

Even with the economic slump we are facing at the moment, 156 participants were able to attend and helped make the tournament what it was. All of the participants and admirers are already looking forward to making next year’s tournament as big a hit as this year’s.

Banderas Bay Booming

Puerto Vallarta and its surrounding cities undoubtedly continue to grow each and every day and show no signs of stopping. Which is why the federal government has approved the investment of $387,500,000 pesos to continue to better the Banderas Bay area. In 2010 this investment will allow the construction of a second tunnel added to the freeway, the expansion of the road to El Tuito, and a bridge over the Ameca River and Ave. Federalistas.

Holiday Safety #1 Priority

Carlos Gerard Guzman (president of CANACO) stated that with the upcoming high season, which is expected to be one of the highest in recent years, the local and state government must do their part to assure the safety of all locals and visitors. Especially during the Christmas season, when most PV locals usually have a good amount of money in their pockets, since this is when they receive their yearly bonuses. Which is why the local law enforcement vows to protect the community by any means necessary.
