PEACE Launches Escuela Para Padres in Puerto Vallarta

August 18, 2011

PEACE Classic Vallarta Home Tours finished their first season on April 5, 2011 with over 600 guests and more than a quarter million pesos.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The PEACE Home Tours, which began its first season last November in Puerto Vallarta, was so successful that it will be able to fund an innovative new PEACE program for Puerto Vallarta called Escuela para Padres (School for Parents.) The program will launch this fall and be made available to parents of children identified as being “at risk.”

The goals of this program are to assist parents to achieve a better understanding of their children and to improve their relationships with them. The theme for the first workshop, which will initially take place at two local schools and later expand to others, will focus on anger management and the cycle of violence in families.

PEACE, founded in the nearby State of Nayarit, has steadily been expanding its hands-on programs to Puerto Vallarta. In just two years, the tax-free charity has introduced free mobile spay and neuter clinics, environmental clean-ups, the Rivera Cuale-PEACE Community Garden, and most recently, the mobile educational clinics for children. Funds from the Home Tours have helped underwrite the costs of the mobile educational classroom and the community garden, the first space of its kind in the Bay of Banderas area.

Education is one of the primary programs of PEACE and the one to which most of its funds are allocated. The Rivera Cuale-PEACE Community Garden is an educational space for local children and student groups. The idea behind this project was to create a garden in an urban setting, where youth from the local communities could learn about recycling, sustainable gardening, organic food and nutrition, and to inspire young people with a respect and love for the earth.

PEACE Home Tour funds are also being used to support the newly introduced mobile classroom that was launched in July. Taking place in the same locations and at the same times as the mobile spay and neuter clinics, children ages six to twelve years of age participate in an interactive educational program that concentrates on pet care, protection of wildlife and protection of the environment.

Under the extremely capable and professional direction of Vicky Mason, the PEACE Home Tours will resume November 22, 2011 and run every Tuesday through March 27, 2012. Details will be available soon on PeaceMexico.org. For immediate information, please send an email to pvtours(at)peacemexico.org.
