April 24, 2015

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's local news, a few community announcements, and some of this weekend's events you won't want to miss.

Feria del Libro at Los Mangos Library

Biblioteca Los Mangos' Second Annual Feria del Libro (Book Fair) is scheduled to take place this weekend, with talks, workshops and fun activities on April 24th & 25th. The Book Fair kicks off on April 24 at 6:30 pm with a talk presented by Carol Ann Johnson, the Program Coordinator of GDLee Reading Circles and the winner of the 2013 Mexico Lee ("Read Mexico") National Prize for the Promotion of Reading, awarded by the National Council for Culture and the Arts. A "Geography Dinner" will follow at 8:30 pm, with presentations and gastronomical samplings from selected countries worldwide. The fun continues on Saturday with the actual Book Fair, where you can purchase books while enjoying storytelling, musical and theatrical presentations, a string ensemble performance, and more from 10 am to 8 pm. At noon a workshop will show teachers, parents and other interested parties how to conduct fun and educational activities that promote the joys of reading. Note: Puerto Vallarta's Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos, is located at Ave. Francisco Villa 1001 in Colonia Versalles. For more information, visit BibliotecaLosMangos.com.

Puerto Vallarta Institute of Culture Welcomes New Director

Marcela Lepe has been named the new director of the Institute of Culture in Puerto Vallarta, replacing Sergio Zepeda. The daughter of Puerto Vallarta's most famous artist, Manuel Lepe, Marcela dabbled in painting at a young age before moving on to study performing arts. Since then, she has created various music, choreography, and theater groups, including her own performance company, which she personally directs. Today, she continues in her father's footsteps with her own paintings of Puerto Vallarta and to honor her father through the creation and operations of the Manuel Lepe Museum and Art Workshop for Children. In short, Marcela Lepe has been a big part of the city's art scene for thirty years. As the Cultural Institute's new director, Lepe will continue to enhance the tourism and cultural experiences in Puerto Vallarta. She is also expected to beef up the 'Mobile Workshops' and 'People's Culture' children's arts programs.
