Vallarta Botanical Gardens Celebrate 10th Anniversary

August 5, 2015

From a Rose Garden for the romantic to jungle trails and a Carnivorous Plants area for the adventurous, the Vallarta Botanical Gardens are "Where Mexican plants meet the imagination."

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Since opening to the public in 2005, Vallarta Botanical Gardens (VBG) has made a name in the local community as one of the most beautiful natural areas around, not only providing enticing surroundings in which to relax, but also a place of learning, where knowledgeable staff educates visitors on the vast diversity of Mexico's plant species.

Having built the hacienda and designed the gardens from scratch in just a few years, founder Robert Price accomplished a remarkable task with a truly rewarding result. Over the years, VBG has won numerous international recognitions and awards, including being featured at an International Gardens Conference in 2012 and being named a "Top 10 North American Garden Worth Travelling For" in 2013 and again in 2015.

The Vallarta Botanical Garden's advances in the past ten years are truly extraordinary. Today, in addition to the 20 acres of native tropical plants and flowering trees, restaurant, gift shop, swimming hole in the river, hiking trails through the jungle and a beautiful new Vireya Rhododendron House, the Gardens are now home to the Vallarta Conservatory of Mexican Orchids, which houses the largest collection of native Mexican Orchids on public display in the country.

All of this could only have come about from the support of the extraordinary community we have in Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes, and the surrounding region. This community has supported the Gardens by believing in the bold vision of Robert Price, who set out to create "Mexico's foremost botanical garden for the propagation, study, discovery, conservation, and display of Mexican native plants for the enjoyment of Puerto Vallarta's residents and our visitors."

And now they are inviting this community to help Vallarta Botanical Gardens celebrate their upcoming tenth anniversary. They're planning a full weekend of events on November 14th and 15th to included guided hikes, open house experiences, captivating talks by dynamic guest speakers, live music, and a birthday cake big enough for everyone to have a piece.

Members and visitors are encouraged to attend the VBG's tenth anniversary celebration, so mark your calendar now and come out and enjoy a beautiful, fun-filled day at your botanical gardens.

If you'd like to be part of making this a truly unforgettable experience, please contact the Garden's Event Committee Chair, Neil Gerlowski at neil(at)vbgardens.org, or Vice Chair, Sue Keevil at info(at)pvseadive.com. We're still in need of volunteers (especially plant experts for tours and our open house) as well as event sponsors.

Located 30 minutes south of Old Town at Km. 24 on Highway 200, Vallarta Botanical Gardens offer something to keep every age group happy; from a Rose Garden for the romantic to jungle trails for the adventurous and a Carnivorous Plants area for the younger generation! The Botanical Gardens' vibrant and elegant settings also offer the perfect venue for weddings and special occasions. For more information, call (322) 223-6182 or visit vbgardens.org.
