May 26 Pulpito Drag Derby Part of 2016 Vallarta Pride

May 17, 2016

The fun starts at 6:00 pm with a wet-shirt contest and pre-party at Pulpito Plaza in the vibrant Southside neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta. At 7:00 pm, the 'Running of the Drag Queens' begins.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Contestants are busy preparing their costumes and high heels for the third annual 'Pulpito Drag Derby' to be held May 26 as part of this year's Vallarta Pride celebration.

The fun starts at 6:00 pm with a wet-shirt contest and pre-party at Pulpito Plaza (Pulpito and Olas Altas) in the vibrant Southside neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta. At 7:00 pm, the 'Running of the Drag Queens' begins.

Derby contestants dressed in 'drag' costumes and wearing a high-heeled shoe of at least 12 cm will race up and down the Pinnacle stairs, in and out of Pulpito bars and restaurants, and perform required stunts to the delight of the crowd. Judges will be positioned along the route, and cash prizes totaling $8000 pesos will be awarded to the top three competitors.

Watching the Drag Derby will be just as much fun! Spectators will be able to place bets on the top three contestants. Winners of the 'bet' will receive their pay out at 3x1 in Pulpito Derby Dollars good at participating businesses. If your contestant wins and you had placed a $200 peso bet, your pay out would be $600 pesos in Pulpito Derby Dollars!

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Amapas Neighborhood Association's Pulpito Plaza Project, which aims to add more planters, attractive new wall-mounted street lights, and decorative trash containers to the already rehabbed Pulpito stairs and the adjacent corners and sidewalks along the street.

The Pulpito Drag Derby is an all-volunteer effort, and the ANA needs dozens of volunteers to help with organizing, taking bets, selling t-shirts, keeping track of the contestants - who can be a real handful - and helping out behind the scenes. To sign up, contact Viviana Teston at admin(at)amapaspv.com. It'll be great fun... and you'll get your own Drag Derby 2016 T-Shirt.

As the date draws nearer, more information will be made available on Facebook at 'Pulpito Drag Derby.' See you at the Derby!

The Amapas Neighborhood Association is the official association of residents and business owners in the Colonia Amapas of Puerto Vallarta. A volunteer and not-for-profit association with about 350 members, the ANA was founded in 2002 to improve the quality of life in Amapas. We work to keep our neighborhood safe, beautiful, desirable and welcoming to tourists and residents from all countries and walks of life. We are also the official "Junta Vecinal" or neighborhood council for Amapas, the legal representative of the neighborhood to the city government. Learn more at AmapasPV.com.
