May 5 Puerto Vallarta News Brief & Weekend Events

May 5, 2017

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Puerto Vallarta news headlines, community announcements and a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.

Puerto Vallarta Supports Extreme Cyclist Franz Elic Grossmann

Puerto Vallarta is standing behind Franz Grossmann, the Austrian competitor who was gravely injured while participating in the second round of competitions of last weekend's Down Puerto Vallarta Urban Downhill Race. Thanks in part to the Athlete Recovery Fund (ARF), who came to Franz's aid immediately after the incident, he is currently in stable condition after undergoing surgery Wednesday morning at the CMQ Hospital, where he remains under the care of a specialized group of doctors. If you would like to help support Franz and his family during his recovery, you can make a donation online via GoFundMe. The recovery period could be lengthy, so every donation is important. If you cannot make a monetary donation, you can join the ARF, sponsors, national and international athletes, the people of Puerto Vallarta and fans from around the world in sending positive messages of unity and respect to Franz on his Instagram page or via Twitter using the hashtags #staystrongfranz #fuerzafranz. In a beautiful gesture of solidarity, Wednesday night's Bicipaseo Nocturno Puerto Vallarta (a night bike ride held weekly) was dedicated to Franz Elic Grossmann. During this week's ride, almost 200 bicyclists stopped outside the CMQ Hospital and held up hundreds of lights to let Franz know that the people of Puerto Vallarta are wishing him a speedy recovery and are looking forward to seeing him back on his bike again. Watch for official updates on Franz's condition which, with the consent of the family, will be communicated on the Down Puerto Vallarta Facebook page.
