Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Biblioteca Los Mangos, Puerto Vallarta's Public Library, is not "just a library," it is a true cultural and community center. It is a place where children and adults go to read, study, use computers, take dancing lessons, play chess, learn English, watch movies and paint, among a multitude of other activities. Here's what's happening this week at Biblioteca Los Mangos:

We are about to start with our 2017 Summer Courses! In addition, it is a week of musical appreciation with El Placer de Escuchar, and as always, the activities of our Cine Club, which starts with a special Tuesday Documentary presented by 'The Pleasure of Listening.'

Documentary Screening: "The Girl from Ipanema"
Suggested donation $20 pesos

Presented by Paco Ojeda, in English with subtitles in Spanish, this excellent BBC documentary tells the story of the famous song, "The Girl from Ipanema," which detonated bossa nova in Brazil and transformed the country and the whole world in the late 1950s.

Cine Los Mangos Club Presents: "Nubes Flotantes" (Floating Clouds)
Suggested donation $20 pesos

This 1955 black-and-white Japanese film directed by Mikio Naruze, tells the story of Yukiko and Tomioka, two lovers in Southeast Asia during World War II. After the conflict, Yukiko returns to Tokyo in search of Tomioka, whom she believes is divorced, but he is still married and unable to leave his wife. From that moment on their relationship alternates between separations and reunions, while other men and women go through their lives.

Paco Ojeda will present "Reggaeton: Origins, Intention and Relevance," an in-depth look at this contagious Latin American musical genre, the impact it has had on popular music today, and the relevance it has, when compared with other popular genres.

Cine Los Mangos Club Presents: "La Cruz de los Años" (Make Way for Tomorrow)
Suggested donation $20 pesos

This 1937 American film directed by Leo McCarey tells the story of an elderly couple who are forced to separate when they lose their house and none of their children will take both parents. The children then decide to share their parents: their mother will stay with one and their father with another, which is a blow to the aging couple, who have lived together all their lives.

Los Mangos Library Summer Hours and Workshop Schedules

With the return of the Summer Courses on July 17, Los Mangos will make the following changes to its hours of attention to the public, as well as some of its permanent workshops. Please take note:

• As of Monday, July 17, the Library will be open to the general public from 3 to 9 pm

• The workshops that will continue during the month of July are: Dibujo Manga, Artistic Drawing, Latin Rhythms, and the intensive courses offered by Edgar Martín del Campo (Photography and Lightroom) and Laura Britos (Ballet).

• The Cine Club continues with its weekly feature film series on Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00 pm.

• Yoga Classes Summer Schedule - Morning classes: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 am. Afternoon classes: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6 pm.
