Vallarta Yacht Club Chili Cookoff: Cooking for a Cause!

November 15, 2012
Last year the Vallarta Yacht Club Great Chili Cookoff event raised almost $84,000 pesos for local charities. The challenge is 'ON' this year to surpass that amount. Word is...THE COMPETITION IS GOING TO BE HOT!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Vallarta Yacht Club's 13th Annual Great Chili Cookoff, is going to be the biggest and best ever! Organizers Marilyn & Jim Moxin and Ronnie Barker are very excited at the number of participants, and the word is that the competition is going to be HOT!

Last year the event achieved a record breaking gross of just under $84,000 pesos and the challenge is on this year to surpass that amount. To do this we need YOUR help.

Participation is FREE! We have a few booths still available for cooking teams and, as this is a Yacht Club hosted event, it would be good to have some participation from members. VYC members would be in the "Platinum Chefs" category vying for the honors with other non restaurant teams - the restaurants have their own category, "Professional Chefs."

There is also a certificate for the "Best Theme Team," so if your chili isn't a winner, your costumes could be! You should start looking for dressing up clothes and props now and bring them down with you – often great bargains are to be had in your local thrift store.

We recommend a minimum of 4 to a team so that you can take it in turns and get out and enjoy the event – go and taste your rivals' chili and loudly declare it's not nearly as good as yours - all's fair in love and war and chili cook offs!

Ok, there are a few rules. Please email for details on how it all works and some helpful hints for winning.

For those of you who have not attended this fun event before: where have you BEEN? This is "THE" start of the season - time to meet up with all the friends you haven’t seen all summer and catch up on all the news.

You'll be having fun and helping two worthy causes: Families at the Dump and the Peace Community Programs – the 13th Annual is certainly going to be lucky for some.

There might be a few surprises this year, so make sure you’re there at 4:00 pm and stay to the end at 7:30 pm, Saturday December 1st. This is the one you do NOT want to miss!
