April 10 Puerto Vallarta News Brief & Weekend Events

April 10, 2015

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Puerto Vallarta news headlines, a few community announcements, and a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.

Riviera Nayarit Beach Cleanup This Saturday

The 11th Riviera Nayarit Beach Cleanup Network event will take place on Saturday, April 11th at the close of the Holy Week and Easter vacation period and after thousands of visitors poured into the destination's beaches. These actions are more important than ever because of the vast influx of visitors and the evident increase in trash generated during the visit of thousands of domestic tourists. Since the program’s inception in June of 2014, over eight thousand black bags have been filled with trash thanks to the work of the more than 15 citizens' groups who have worked together with students and businesses to create awareness and change. Beach clean ups take place every second Saturday in Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Punta de Mita, Sayulita, San Pancho, Lo de Marcos, Los Ayala, Guayabitos, La Peñita, Platanitos and the Isla de Mexcaltitán. For more details about the project, including the hours and meeting places, please call (322) 297-2516 ext. 108, and someone from the Riviera Nayarit CVB will be happy to help you.

Los Muertos Brewing Company Sponsors VBG Beer Garden

On Saturday, April 18, from 1-6 pm, Vallarta Botanical Gardens (VBG) will host its own version of an event that has become wildly popular in our Sister City of Santa Barbara: the annual Beer Garden, where craft microbrews are paired with special places within the garden. Los Muertos Brewing Company, who is sponsoring Vallarta's first-ever Beer Garden event, will set up beer stations throughout the Gardens, where participants can learn more about both the microbrews and the Gardens. VBG is touting the event as a FUNdraiser, as proceeds will help support the Garden's various educational programs. Tickets, priced at $500 pesos, or $450 for Garden members, MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE, and are available at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens and at Los Muertos Brewing Company, Lazaro Cardenas #302 on Puerto Vallarta's south side.

New 'Musical Walk' in Downtown Puerto Vallarta

With the intention of starting a new tradition that will more bring life and culture to the historic center of Puerto Vallarta, a group of pro active and enthusiastic people have created a new weekly activity called Callejoneada. Starting on Tuesday, April 14th at 7 pm, everyone is invited to take a "Musical Walk" through the streets of El Centro. Participants will be accompanied by local musicians Rondalla de Puerto Vallarta, who will sing and play music as they lead the group on a route that starts at the main plaza and continues along Hidalgo Galeana, Morelos, and Corona streets, and ends at Casa Mascota on the corner of Juárez y Aldama. Along the way, there will be 'music stations,' where participants can enjoy romantic serenades as they make their way to Casa Mascota, where a Verbena Popular (street party) will be held offering more musical entertainment, traditional snacks and refreshments. "Callejoneadas" organizers invite everyone to discover this fun-filled event, which will be held every Tuesday and undoubtedly become a popular weekly attraction for locals and tourists alike.

New Performance Venue to Open in Puerto Vallarta

A new performance venue will soon be opening in Puerto Vallarta at Av. González Gallo, directly across from Walmart Macroplaza, near Pitillal. The theater, called "Tercera Llamada," will present a variety of entertainment and theatrical offerings, but focus on family-oriented comedies. Tercera Llamada will open its doors to the public on Saturday, April 18, with ¿Gorda Yo? a comedy/musical monologue (in Spanish) about obesity by acclaimed Mexican actress Lupita Sandoval. Rather than poking fun at other people's challenges with being overweight, Sandoval focuses the humor on herself, hoping to sensitize audiences to the struggle of dealing with weight issues. For more information, visit Tercera Llamada's Facebook page.
