Daiquiri Dick's Supports SETAC's 'Give Milk' Program

July 3, 2015

$1500 pesos were raised for SETAC's "Give Milk" campaign, which is focused on helping HIV positive mothers feed their young children without the risk of infecting them with the virus.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - While the city celebrated Vallarta Pride 2015, Daiquiri Dick's Restaurant took the party one step further and decided to give back to the community.

During the 9-day Gay Pride event, the restaurant donated 25 percent of the $100 peso price of a Pink Mary cocktail to the SETAC Community Health Center in Puerto Vallarta.

"This was a great way for us to donate to a worthy cause," says General Manager/Executive Chef Ignacio Uribe. "People always pass by the restaurant while going to the different events and it was easy to stop by for a cocktail, meal and snacks." The Pink Mary was a special cocktail created for Vallarta Pride and was a combination of vodka, fresh watermelon juice and fresh mint.

Just over $1500 pesos were raised, and the funds were used to buy baby formula for SETAC's "Give Milk" campaign, which is focused on helping HIV positive mothers feed their young children without the risk of infecting them with the virus.

"It's a wonderful thing. I just love it," says Paco Aronja, Director of SETAC, "it is encouraging when local businesses decide to help us out, there is always a need for formula and this donation will feed one baby for almost three months."

In 2009, SETAC became the first medical outreach center in Mexico to be part of the CAPASITS (walk in center for the prevention and treatment of AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases) federal health care system. The SETAC staff outsources various services to the medical professionals in the CAPASITS network. This includes doctors, psychologists, social workers and dentists. The center also provides assistance to women with HIV and their children.
