'Super Hero' Race to Raise Funds for PV Karate Students

A "Super Hero" race will be held at the Agustin Flores Contreras Sports Stadium at 8:30 am on Sunday, April 17 with the goal of raising funds to help Puerto Vallarta's Karate-Do Okinawa-Te students go to a statewide competition in Guadalajara this June. According to the school's director, Francisco Crisosto, Karate-Do Okinawa-Te has been operating in Puerto Vallarta for 37 years, and is the only school in town that is affiliated with the Mexican Federation of Karate. He said that over the years they've instructed state and national champions, as well as Panamerican games qualifiers. "However," he said, "some very good competitors have fallen by the wayside due to a lack of resources." As such, the school, with the support of the Municipal Sports Council, has decided to hold a kid-friendly event to raise funds. "Instead of a difficult competition, this will be a different kind of race. The goal is to encourage children to practice sports in a fun way - by sharing the experience with their favorite super hero." The track will be set up as an obstacle course with competitions in six categories, ranging from simple races for 3-5 year-olds to more challenging events for older participants. Registration begins at 7:30 am and costs 50 pesos for children or 100 pesos for adults. For more information, call Karina Crisoto at 322-133-5583 or visit her Facebook page.
