The biggest news is of course the reopening of the bridge across the Ameca River to Nayarit state, on December 8th, only 3 months from the time the old bridge collapsed. This is great news for anyone going to the Riviera Nayarit, Punta Mita, Sayulita and all points north. These will show the cynics that Mexico is able to compete or even surpass almost any country in the world in engineering and getting things done on time.

As well Mexico and Puerto Vallarta are gaining ground on green lifestyles and cutting greenhouse emissions. Mexico's president announced a 4 billion dollar investment in a project slated to be the world's largest "energy bank". Plans to build the Energy Bank in Mexicali would conserve energy from all renewable sources such as solar, wind and geothermal energy. The capability to bank the energy and sell to other countries has a major impact especially on environmental levels. As well Puerto Vallarta has just invested over 10 million pesos into plastic recycling. Some big steps are being made in Mexico towards a greener future for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and hopefully the world.

Other hot topics around town are the reopening of the Farmers Market and Los Mercado's with high quality Butcher, Baker, Deli, Produce and wine & Liquor store all under one roof. With their great location on Aquiles Serdan just off Ignacio L. Vallarta this is a great option for Romantic zone, Conchas Chinas and South Shore shoppers. Whether you are a resident, or visiting in a rental villa or condominium you will love this new place to shop for everything from snacks to dessert and everything in between.

On the topic of food the big news in restaurants is El Dorado Restaurant on Los Muertos Beach a long time Puerto Vallarta icon has reopened under new management. I am also hearing a lot of great comments about a couple other restaurants both on the south side - Coco's kitchen located just a few steps from El Dorado across from the Farmers Market and No Way Jose located just over the southbound bridge take the first street to the left called Calle 5 de Febrero.

The other big news is the huge New Years Eve party to be held in the heart of the downtown or historic center. The huge event is being organized by the mayor, City hall and the Bureau of Visitors and Conventions with the help of the Department of Tourism (Fideicomiso). The event will also introduce Puerto Vallarta's official website VisitPuertoVallarta.com. The new site which we are happy to say was designed and launched by a local company Mijo! Brands, with the plan to increase tourism and give Puerto Vallarta a fresh new image.

The event, "Fusión de Sentidos: Fiesta Vallarta 2011" is scheduled to take place at Los Arcos at the south end of the Malecón and feature a roster of acclaimed local and international entertainment beginning at 7:00 pm. The event, hosted by local radio celebrity Elidee Hernandez, has tentatively scheduled a variety of local and international talent to entertain the crowds during the countdown to the New Year.

Acts include International DJs to acrobats to traditional Mariachi music. There is a great party hosted at Oscars from 10 PM to late in collaboration with the city. With a special fireworks show at 2:00 AM.
