Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Thousands of Puerto Vallarta young people have reached their educational goals through scholarships from Becas Vallarta, A. C./American-Mexico Foundation, Inc.

Currently more than 350 students, 8th grade through university, are depending on us to have the funds to fulfill our promise to them that as long as they meet our criteria, we will give them scholarships until they have reached their goals.

In order to meet our obligation to these bright young Vallartenses we are constantly fund raising. Thus I am reminding all of you that La Leche Restaurant and Liverpool Department Stores are helping us to meet that goal by sponsoring a Becas Brunch and Fashion Show on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

La Leche doors will open for seating at 10:30 am and the brunch and fashion show will begin at 11:00 am. Prominent cultural luminary Nacho Cadena and his son Chef Alfonso Cadena of La Leche are cooking up a fabulous brunch for us served with wine. Tickets are $300 pesos and must be bought in advance. You may get them from any member of Becas or by emailing me at phvicars(at)gmail.com or calling me at (322) 223-1371 or 044-322-182-0215.

There will be door prizes from Coyul, Liverpool, Teatro Vallarta and more that you can win by just being there. And bring your pesos to buy raffle tickets for chances to win great prizes from our loyal supporters: Archi’s Wok, Canopy Tour Los Veranos, Casa Isabel, La Estancia Casa Magna Marriott, Cassandra Shaw, Champions Sports Bar Casa Magna Marriott, Coco’s Kitchen, Daiquiri Dick's, Dhelma Esthetic, French Riviera, June Rosen Gallery, La Palapa Restaurant, Liverpool, Los Bambinos, Lucy’s Cucú Cabaña, Marcelo Mico, Nacho Daddy, No Name Bar & Grill, No Way José!, Red Cabbage, The River Café, Teatro Vallarta, Traffic Tours, Vallarta Botanical Gardens and XocoDiva.

A super silent auction will feature floral arrangements from Florart and Flowers to Go, framed Stefan Lökös posters, a framed Bernice Starr poster, one week’s Spanish Lessons from the Spanish Experience, 3 month membership in the Health Club, a unique pillow from Lalo Morales, decorative plate and stand from Azulejos and more.

Everyone is sure to enjoy a leisurely and scrumptious brunch in the exquisite white setting of La Leche while local personalities entice you with the latest in fashion. Cucu Parades from Liverpool Department Store is lining up exciting fashions for men, women and children.

Among the models will be Becas and AMF Presidents Mariel and Carlos Fregoso, their son Lorenzo, his wife Maria as well as their three children. Wedding planner Laura Cardenas will strut her stuff along with North Carolinians Jenny and Joe Henry Jenkins, artist Pat Smith, Yolanda Igartua and Rosanna Contreras, the lovely Lolita Padilla from Toyota Puerto Vallarta, Mother-daughter duo Marta Vial and Paula Arredondo and Barba Vosborourgh will show great fashions. Becas members Aurora de La Torre and her husband Luis Horcasitas will grace the runway and Polly Vicars and Husband, AKA Hubert Vicars, will show the latest for Los Viejitos.

As always, look for a few surprises and be ready to have a wonderful time at this last Becas Event of this season. We thank all of you who participate in our events and hope that you know that you are truly changing the lives of our scholarship students with your support of Becas Vallarta. A huge Gracias to all.

Polly G. Vicars and her husband of almost 60 years, Hubert (a.k.a. "Husband") retired to Puerto Vallarta in 1988 and soon became active members of several charitable organizations. Polly is the author of "Tales of Retirement in Paradise: Life in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico" [a sell-out!] and "More Tales of Retirement in Puerto Vallarta and Around the World." Proceeds from the sale of her books go to the America-Mexico Foundation, a scholarship foundation that is their passion.
